Every Game Announced at E3 2019, Ranked by Hype

35. Midnight Ghost Hunt

This ghost-hunting indie game seems neat – one player plays as a ghost, overtaking various household furniture to outsmart the ghost-hunters. There’s a certain budget quality to this trailer that makes us doubt how stable it will be, but the concept is really neat! We’ll see how it goes.

34. Commander Keen

Commander Keen is a mobile reboot of the old ID Software-developed series of the same name. We have to admit, as far as mobile ports go, this doesn’t look half-bad!

33. Contra: Rogue Corps

The hay days of Contra on NES and SNES are long gone, but at least we have a new M-rated third-person shooter called Contra Rogue Corps, right? Wait no, that’s a bad thing! Why did they ditch those old-school side-scrolling shoot-em-ups in favor of a PS2-era-looking 3D shooter?

32. Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad

This is a neat mash-up of a bunch of characters from the various Tom Clancy games. Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon, The Division – all the notable Clancy franchises are there, including Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell series.

31. Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Just like the Olympics, these games arrive once every two years and generally have the same content. However, it is kind of interesting that next year’s Olympics will be in the heart of Nintendo and Sega’s homeland. Maybe they’ll include something in the game to to celebrate.

30. Carrion

This is a “reverse-horror” game where you play as a gooey terror-inducing beast, killing everything aboard a space-ship. It’s a neat premise, plus, it’s published by Devolver Digital!

29. Devolver Bootleg

If you’re a fan of Devolver games (and you should be), you’ll be delighted by this collection of miniature rip-offs of their own games. Instead of Enter the Gungeon, why not play Enter the Gun Dungeon? Forget Ape Out, you could be playing Ape Out Junior! Who needs Hotline Miami when you have Hotline Milwaukee?

28. Bleeding Edge

We’re still not certain how Ninja Theory went from a single-player narrative game to a 4-Vs-4 shooter so quickly, but hey, Bleeding Edge seems to have a snarky Borderlands-ish tone. We have yet to see if it can set itself apart from the shooter crowd.

27. Spiritfarer

A management game in a Japanese houseboat, Spiritfarer game has one of the most poignant art-styles of this year’s E3. We don’t know what the giant portal at the end of the trailer is, but we can’t wait to find out.

26. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition

The genre might not be where it used to be, but Age of Empires II is still a wonderful RTS. This remaster is uprezzing the entire game to 4K, and we’re very excited to give it a go.

25. Empire of Sin

You might gloss over this 1950’s crime strategy game without a second thought, but don’t! It’s being published by Paradox Interactive (who also published Cities: Skylines) and headed by original DOOM designer John Romero!

24. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The best Lego games have the same appeal as any Pixar movie: great for kids, but still enjoyable for adults. So the upcoming Skywalker Saga, which will include Lego Star Wars games from all nine of the Skywalker Star Wars films, is incredibly exciting!

23. Outriders

The developers of Bulletstorm are making yet another shooter, but this one has a poignant theme that we’re really into. The harsh reds and oranges of the trailer’s closing battle give off the vibe of a DOOM game, only with an alien enemy from Stranger Things. No gameplay yet, but it seems promising!

22. Trials of Mana

Anyone familiar with Secret of Mana or last year’s remake should be interested in this game. It’s a remake of a Japanese game called Seiken Densetsu 3, which, incidentally, was the game that came after Secret of Mana, and never released in the US. Until now!

21. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

In Fall Guys, you play as a Fall Guy, which is pretty much a Pillsbury Doughboy with black pupils and a colorful space suit. Not sold yet? Well, there’s also a giant chicken, a massive skateboard, and lots of polka-dotted balls… we can’t do it justice with words – watch the trailer yourself.

20. 12 Minutes

12 Minutes has a desperate, time-looping tale to tell about a husband and wife. We don’t know the full details of how this time loop will work, or how it will tie into the overall plot, but we’ll be there for it.

19. Battletoads

Sure, the Battletoads revival was technically announced last year, but we got our first official glimpse of gameplay during Microsoft’s E3 conference. We might have a few qualms about the art-style, but if the beat-em-up combat and multiplayer are strong enough, we’ll be more than willing to give it a shot.

18. Panzer Dragoon

This remaster of the Sega Saturn exclusive dragon-riding game looks absolutely gorgeous. Funny how it’s a Nintendo exclusive now, huh?

17. Chivalry 2

Mordhau stole the first-person swordplay show this past month, so Chivalry is back to take the throne or die trying. At least graphically, it seems like a drastic improvement over the original; here’s hoping the gameplay will mimic that improvement.

16. Gods and Monsters

We think the top comment on Gods and Monsters’ reveal trailer says all that needs to be said: “Legend of Assassin: Breath of Odyssey.”

15. Tales of Arise

The next “Tales of” game explores the relationship between two planets, one dominating and one dominated. In true Romeo and Juliet fashion, the two protagonists hail from either planet. It’s a simple and classic narrative-model, but we’re looking forward to it nonetheless.

14. Rainbow Six Quarantine

Look, what more do you need to hear than “three-person co-operative Rainbow Six Siege”? As a concept, Quarantine already sounds great.

13. Roller Champions

The appeal of games like Rocket League is the promise of a remotely realistic sport with a very unrealistic sci-fi twist. Roller Champions seems to be shooting for that same mark, but with roller-skating and basketball. We can’t wait.

12. Blair Witch

The original Blair Witch Project movie seems like a perfect template for a horror game. From the trailer, we can already tell that we’ll be terrified when the Blair Witch comes in full assault mode.

11. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Very little information about the new Dragon Ball game was given in the trailer, but it’s looking as exuberantly crazy as any good Dragon Ball game should be, so we’re excited nonetheless.

10. No More Heroes 3

No More Heroes’ last excursion, Travis Strikes Again, was a mini game-themed spin-off that served as a good enough distraction. Ultimately, though, we’re glad the series is back in full stride with No More Heroes 3, which is looking just as over-the-top as ever.

9. Avengers

The Avengers trailer might not have been the perfect reveal Square Enix wanted, but there’s no denying the incredible acting talent behind this iteration of the Marvel team-up. Nolan North, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey – those three are reason enough to reconsider dismissing Avengers.

8. Baldur’s Gate 3

Try this statement on for size: The developers of Divinity 2 are making a Baldur’s Gate game. What a crazy world, huh?

7. Watch Dogs: Legion

Watch Dogs 1 and 2 were clearly missing something, so Ubisoft said “screw it, you can play as anyone.” And thus, there’s a grandma assassin; so it’s an instant masterpiece, if you ask us.

6. Deathloop

Two lone assassins are caught in a time loop, mirroring each other’s intentions, but inversely, and they’re locked in an eternal struggle until… um, we’re not sure what the end goal is! We’ve yet to see any gameplay for Deathloop, but based on the trailer alone, Arkane has a brilliant concept on their hands.

5. Ghostwire: Tokyo

There’s an aura of mystery shrouding Ghostwire: Tokyo. We have no idea what to make of it, but as the mysterious warrior at the end of the trailer states, “don’t fear the unknown – attack it.” We’ll certainly attack it once we get more details.

4. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered

For the past few years, Square Enix has seemed dead-set on forgetting that Final Fantasy VIII exists. But at long last, they broke their self-imposed silence and announced a FFVIII remaster for everything under the sun.

3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: how long we have waited. It seems like an eternity since New Leaf on 3DS, and the spin-off board games and mobile titles didn’t help our patience, either. No matter, New Horizons is on its way, and it’s gorgeous!

2. Elden Ring

Sure, the Elden Ring teaser trailer was minimal, but why do you need imagery when you can picture the game yourself? An incredibly dense, beautifully desperate FromSoftware world, with the extensive guidance and lore of the Game of Thrones visionary. We’re sold.

1. Breath of The Wild Sequel

Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one of the greatest video games ever made, is getting a sequel. How? We have no clue, but Nintendo does, so we’ll leave the impossible ambitions to them, and wait patiently for the moment we can return to glorious Hyrule once again.
