Assassin’s Creed Odyssey vs. 300 Spartan Scene Screenshot Comparison is a Hoot

Assassin's Creed Odyssey, 300

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is pushing the series further toward the action-RPG blueprint laid down by its predecessor, Origins. Yet there’s still plenty of that alternative history magic that we love from the series. Nothing epitomizes that more than the recreation of one of the most iconic scenes in comic-book movie history, the brave 300’s defense of Greece against the Persian Empire. It’s almost a blow by blow of the brutally violent battle scene in which Leonidas kicks some serious ass. So much so that we thought we’d do a screenshot by screenshot comparison of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey vs. 300 for a bit of a laugh. Strap in.

Ok, let’s just kick things off (sorry, had to) with a scene to get us in the mood, and one that surely everyone recognizes. Yes, Leonidas, this is Sparta.

Leonidas revving up his troops for battle really gets me in the mood to decapitate some useless foot soldiers. It’s a bit more intense in the movie version, honestly. I could have gone for more growling in the Odyssey recreation.

300 vs 300,000 seems like insurmountable odds. But all you need to do is find a small opening in a canyon and plonk your troops there. Who knew? Oh, and also make sure the country you’re defending has absolutely nowhere else the invasion force could possibly land to avoid said small opening.

Remember that scene when Leonidas tells the deformed guy that he can’t fight because Spartans form a shield wall and he wouldn’t be able to hold rank? Yeah, well… that all goes out the window 5 seconds into the battle. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and 300 both opt for total historical inaccuracy.

Best bit of the movie, come on… ten years later and we’re playing a simulation. 20-year-old me would have been very excited to know this.

This is player’s first chance to taste combat in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and you’re playing Leo-friggin-nidas –too cool.

There’s even the showdown with the immortals. Turns out they’re pretty easy to kill.

That’s it for our little screenshot comparison with 300. If you liked that, definitely check out our features on other cool things to do in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and tiny details that will blow your mind. And if you haven’t read our review yet, what are you waiting for!
