Here’s a collection of 20 of the best Skyrim memes found anywhere online. Bethesda’s title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was first released in November 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms. As it’s fifth anniversary approaches, a Remastered edition was released for next-gen platforms including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and again PC.
Skyrim is well-known for the series of inside jokes players share online with each other. These reoccurring jokes often appear in meme format, pointing out flaws in the logic of the game or noting the silly natures of the NPCS, enemies, or main character itself.
The most well known Skyrim meme is that of the “arrow to the knee” remark made by various town guards. The guards state, “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.” This prompted players to create a meme making fun of the statement, either by adding the image of the Skyrim guards to other established memes, or create other phrases wherein a person was aiming to complete a task, “until they took an arrow to the knee.”
Other popular Skyrim memes include recognizing that the horses players use to get around in the game often don’t adhere to a normal understanding of worldly physics, as they can climb mountains at seemingly impossible angles. As well, a cat like NPC who states the line “Khajiit has wares if you have coin” prompted players to post the line over images of similar looking cats.
Even five years later, memes from this game continue to be popular. With the Remaster undoubtedly bringing new players in to start to create their own.
