Cleared out an entire base of enemies using nothing but a metal box
Everything breaks in Breath of the wild. Your swords. Your shields. Sometimes your sanity. For when you’re low on all of those things, there’s no better way to take out an enemy camp than with sheer madness.
Out of weapons and hungry for a fight, we ran right into a camp of Bokoblins and Lizalfos, picked up a metal box with our magnet powers, and hurled it around until everyone was dead. We smashed, we bashed, we knocked poor little guys off cliffs. We lifted it 10 feet into the air and dropped it right onto their skulls. We probably went too hard.
But at the end of the day, the camp was cleared, and we did get to pick up some new weapons.
Fought a giant, mechanical elephant while riding a Zora warrior
(If you’d rather not hear about any of Breath of the Wild’s bigger fights, you may want to skip this part)
Through his adventures in Zora’s Domain, Link eventually gets tasked with taking down Ruta, a giant, mechanical elephant spewing water all over the region. The locals aren’t too happy about the eternal rain thing going on, so Link hops on Zora Prince Sidon and rides into battle. Sidon jets through the water like the lightning fish-man he is, leaving Link to block the ice projectiles shot out from the elephant’s body. Once everything is clear, Sidon brings you up close to scale a giant waterfall using nothing but your body (and the Zora outfit that lets you do that.)
Link then shoots out the top of the waterfall, aims his bow down at the monster’s back, and slow-mo shoots down its weak spots. Then you crash back into the water, board Sidon, and race through the water again.
Faced our mortality in a volcano
Of all the environments we’ve come across in Breath of the Wild, few moments top our journey through the insides of a flaming mountain. We glided over massive pools of lava, skirted around our healthy heat levels, and stood face to face with a terribly molten death.
Few locations are as deadly, and few as epic, as Death Mountain. It’ll drop your jaw, it’ll kill you, and as a cherry on top, its fiery madness is swirling in dark evil. It’s the perfect balance of awe and imminent death, and one of the must-see attractions of Hyrule.
Built a catapult, launched into the air, and shot birds
This was a perfect use of both our engineering and avian-despising skills. Using Link’s magnetic rune power, we built a simple catapult with objects found around the world. All you really need is a plank, a balance, and a big heavy block to drop on the end of said plank. Doing so, thanks to Breath of the Wild’s physics, will launch you right into the sky.
While we were up there, we took a beautiful moment to admire the scenery, get some fresh air, and mercilessly slaughter nearby birds. It was a peaceful moment, taking them down with slow-motion arrow shots to the face as we drifted gently to the ground. Did we look insane? Absolutely. Did we regret it? Not for a second.
Ran through a desert naked while on fire (and survived)
This was probably the least intelligent epic feat during our time with the game, but damn, was it worth it.
You’re not really supposed to venture into Breath of the Wild’s deserts without protection. Players are meant to gather heat resistance for Link by purchasing special outfits, completing quests for helpful items, and learning recipes for heat-resistant food. Instead, we stripped down and sprinted right through that fiery sand. Understandably, Link caught on fire.
But that did not stop us. We plowed through the dunes like the human torch, eventually reaching salvation and Link somehow none the tanner.
