5 Ways Age of Triumph Can Send Destiny Out with a Bang

An age of wonder.

More Light

When we say more Light for Destiny, we aren’t asking that they cut out the dark areas you can traverse in the game – we’re actually quite fond of those. What we mean is more power. Events in Destiny have always been cool, but they often become little more than a hunt for weapons you may never really use, and armor that you collect just to say you have it. There’s no incentive of becoming a more powerful Guardian and therefore increasing our legends.

Granted, an event won’t bring a drastic increase in Light level, but raising it by 20-25 will bring back that drive to explore the cosmos once more. If this event is like any in the past, we’ll definitely be revisiting areas, so why not let us show all those denizens of the Darkness how much we’ve grown?

Worthwhile Exotics

Who doesn’t love a good Exotic? Destiny has a large selection of them, but not all weapons are created equal. Sure there are things like the Gjallarhorn, the three swords, Outbreak Prime, and Ice Breaker, but then you have weapons like Super Good Advice and Hereafter. They just don’t have the same oomph, pomp and circumstance as the rest. We need more oomph in our arsenals. While using the mentioned great weapons is… well, great, it feels good to mix things up.

After the release of The Taken King, Bungie started implementing Exotic Quests through updates and they were very well received. It would be great to get a couple of those once again, and have them well hidden within Age of Triumph’s content. They would make for a great scavenger hunt and get long-time players that have already done everything ample reason to jump back in.

Atheon and Crota Remixed

While the newer raids have certainly been enjoyable – Wrath of the Machine is still a blast to run through with friends – a lot of players are still longing to return to the OGs of Destiny: Atheon and Crota. Age of Triumph is all about reliving our greatest memories while also facing new challenges. Remixes of the Vault of Glass and Crota’s End would be the perfect opportunities to do just that.

Age of Triumph is going to need content, and we know a lot of that will be reworkings of things we’ve already done (which seems to be Bungie’s MO for events). So why not, for the last hurrah, make it a re-imagining of the first raids to ever push Guardians to their limits?

Better Rewards

Remember the Moments of Triumph events we’ve gotten to celebrate each year so far? They were cool little checklists to complete so that you could truly say you overcame every challenge. Unfortunately, the rewards were less than amazing. Year One players earned an emblem that showed off their accomplishment, but it only meant something to people around since day one. Most people just look and say hey that looks neat, and then are on their merry way. Year Two got an emblem as well, but they all got the right to purchase a shirt at the discounted price of $25 – it cost a few grand if you didn’t complete the challenges but don’t worry, all the proceeds went to charity.

Chances are this will be the final send-off for Destiny before the upcoming sequel, so the prize at the end should be worth it. Perhaps an unlock in the next installment to give you an advantage over the new enemies you’ll encounter? That would be sweet.

A Deep Questline That Leads Us to the Gates of Destiny 2

Last year’s April update really upped the ante for what to expect from these free events. It introduced great new gear, including a set that let you become a Taken Guardian (still one of the coolest/creepiest things in Destiny to date), some worthwhile weapons, and quests that were actually intriguing to play. It also reworked a few of the strikes in ways that altered the lore. This tied them in with everything that had transpired in the game so far, and gave returning players yet another reason to play it all over again.

The stakes are higher this time, though, as Bungie is preparing the stage for Destiny 2 (or whatever it ends up being called). What better way to get fans hyped for what’s on the horizon than to inject a bit of that future into the game we’ve already poured hundreds of hours into. In order for Age of Triumph to really close things off right, it needs to end in a way that leads right into the beginning of its sequel. Granted, this doesn’t have to be available immediately. Chances are that Destiny 2 is still a ways off, but Bungie can patch in something to the event, which according to its trailer, is set to be large. Either way, that small taste will have Guardians ready for the next battle.

Hopefully, some of this is on the cards. As we wait for the announcements, remember to keep your eyes on the Light.

Safe travels, Guardians.
