Watch Dogs 2, like most major releases, is full of pop culture references as well as nods to other video games. The San Francisco area is full of them for players who are looking to explore.
Of course, a lot of the references and Easter eggs are hidden within main missions that uncover new bits of the story. With that being said you may not want to look at this list if you hate spoilers. Yes, the Easter eggs are pretty cool, but seeing them too early can ruin your experience and we don’t want to do that. However, if you don’t care about a couple of spoilers and love references in video games, check out what we’ve found in Watch Dogs 2.
SPOILER WARNING! LAST CHANCE TO TURN BACK!
A Fake Game?
Ubisoft Montreal included a Side Operation in Watch Dogs 2 concerning video game leaks, namely those from Ubisoft’s studios. Marcus finds out about a new game coming up, so of course he just has to go get his hands on some inside information. The Operation in question is titled Ubistolen, and it tasks the player with heading to Ubisoft SF to snatch up a trailer. The mission brief reads as:
“DedSec caught wind of a trailer being developed by Ubisoft SF. Who knows what game it’s for and who cares, so long as we get followers by leaking it.”
It’s most likely poking fun at their bout of leaks over the past few years, particularly with Assassin’s Creed and the first leaked shot of what would eventually become Marcus. There’s a full trailer hidden in the mission, but nobody is sure if it’s for a real game or not. It’s now all over the internet, just like the developers predicted in the game.
Return of the Fox
It’s no secret that Aiden Pearce wasn’t exactly liked when he made his debut in the first Watch Dogs. Marcus “Retr0” Holloway is everything that Aiden wasn’t, so many fans were thinking good riddance. But no matter what you may think of the angry man from the first game, he did try to do the right thing (at the cost of others, unfortunately) and he’s determined to put a stop to ctOS. The developers couldn’t just leave him out in the cold after he kicked off their series, so guess who makes a quick appearance in Watch Dogs 2?
During the Side Operation titled “Shadows,” you’ll be looking into a confrontation between two gangs. While snooping you discover this wonderful Easter egg, the Fox is in San Francisco, and you even get the opportunity to save his life. Talk about paying homage to your predecessor.
Aliens and Predator vs. Superman and Batman
During one mission Marcus and Wrench (who are seriously BFF goals in Watch Dogs 2) start to get into one of their usual nerdy conversations. This one brings up the question of who would really win, Aliens or Predators? And no, they don’t use any code to allude to what they’re talking about they get right into it, mentioning the movies and actors. They even go as far as to mention a comic that most fans probably never even read: Batman and Superman vs. Aliens and Predator.
This was a two-part story released in January and February of 2007 that put everyone’s favorite heroes against everyone’s favorite sci-fi monsters. It was cool to have this Easter egg add a dash of real life to the whole experience.
Knight Rider
David Hasselhoff seems to be all the rage this year as he appears in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s new zombie mode, Zombies in Spaceland, and there’s a sweet nod to Knight Rider in Watch Dogs 2. During the Main Operation “Cyberdriver” you have to steal a car that looks and performs a lot like KITT from the hit 1980’s series. It talks to you, often insulting you, and has all of the cool flashing lights you would expect.
Even the actor, Jimmy Siska, looks like he would be the Hasselhoff of this fictional San Francisco, complete with the hair and way of speaking. It’s a cool little Easter egg for a very cool show from the past.
Scientology
There’s just something about Scientology that makes open-world games have to include it, specifically open-world games set in modern America. We saw a version in GTA, and now Watch Dogs 2 has it’s very own, complete with brainwashing, weird artifacts, and a very strict system that bars any outsiders influencing their community.
The best part is that you’ll even get a chance to visit some of New Dawn’s camps and find their precious relics. It’s silly, but it’s also pretty horrifying when you get down to it. False Profits is the Operation where all the Easter eggs come to light.
Make sure to check back in as we uncover even more Easter eggs in Watch Dogs 2.
