7 Warzone Map Changes That’d Make Season 4 Truly Explosive

warzone, season 4, map changes

Warzone has become an absolute phenomenon since its launch in early 2020, hitting 50 million players in April. Now, as we approach Season 4, players are speculating about what might change in Verdansk after Infinity Ward said that it was planning Fortnite style events. If changes to the world are on the cards, here are seven Warzone map changes we’d like to see in Season 4.

Open Up Stadium

Of all the potential Warzone map changes, this would be the most exciting. The Stadium area is arguably the most under-utilized section of Verdansk. You can fly a helicopter to the roof, where there’s very little cover, or walk around the edges, picking up loot and opening chests along the way.

However, you cannot actually go inside at all, which is some huge missed potential. For the part of the world Verdansk is set in (Ukraine), it would probably be either an Olympic or soccer stadium, but it’s the inside areas of the stadium that could be more interesting.

The small rooms around the outside, open central corridor, and large central pitch could offer all types of combat scenarios and Infinity ward could even open part of the roof, allowing players to parachute right into the middle.

It would be a whole new landmark for players to explore, without it being a dramatic change to the makeup of the map, so it’s an update that would make a lot of sense.

Overflow Dam

This is the game-changing map alteration that’s been rumored for months. After Infinity Ward suggested that it’s planning to feature Fortnite style map events, the Dam started creaking, and the main menu showed it overflowing. This ending of the Northern landmark is something some players expect to happen.

The chatter involving Captain Price in the Season 4 teaser trailer also points towards chemical weapons being used, which could be in reference to the mysterious stuff inside bunker 11.

Overflowing or simply destroying the Dam could affect more than just that small section too. The towns slightly south, the Airport, and even Stadium could become underwater locations, changing where players can go.

Obviously this would all require the Dam to defrost first, which could also affect the build-up of the snowy north. It would also dramatically change the layout of Dam itself, which can be one of the most frustrating sections of Verdansk in its current state.

However, since the land to the East as you get towards Military Base is higher than the Dam itself, Infinity Ward wouldn’t be able to just level it. You’ll still need to be able to reach the top of it, no matter what is up there.

Add An Elevator Inside Dam

If nothing happens with the Dam, an update should at least be made to make it more accessible. As of right now it’s a bit of a hassle. If you’re at the bottom of it and near the helicopter, for example, you can get into rooms below it, but there’s no way up to the top of Dam without going all the way around the cliffs on either side or shimmying up the right-hand side.

Even more annoying, if you’re caught near the bottom near the end of a match, the zone can trap you there and make it impossible for you to win.

There are stairwells going down at the top, but they don’t reach the bottom. It would be good for them to be extended or for elevators to be added so that there are more ways to the top. The top of Dam can be quiet and that’s mostly down to how inaccessible it is.

Nuke Downtown or Promenade Areas

Getting rid of a popular urban area of a map is something we’ve seen in battle royale games before. Epic did the same with Tilted Towers in Fortnite and it worked a treat.

Downtown is one of the most frustrating areas of the map, promoting the same camping tactics that fans dislike in standard Modern Warfare. Roaming through its open streets is a nightmare, with huge skyscrapers and blind corners hiding enemies from all directions.

It’s so unpredictable that not many players drop there, even though it’s full of loot.

Nuking Downtown, or even the Promenade areas to the West could refresh some of the largest areas of Verdansk, and the event could even link to the nuke that can be found in Bunker 11.

With Bunker 11 being in the north, by Military Base, it might make more sense for somewhere up there to be destroyed, but the destruction of Downtown would make the south side of the map far more interesting.

Fill the River & Storm Drain

I’m not sure swimming is even possible in Call of Duty from a technical standpoint, and there’s currently no open water in Verdansk, but it sure would be cool if swimming was implemented.

The river runs down from the dam towards Airport, while the storm drain runs all the way down from there to where Port meets the sea. They’re good obstacles themselves, leaving teams open when they try to run across, but navigating them would be more interesting if you had to swim over.

It’s easy to imagine that hiding loot in deep water would add an interesting layer of strategy to the experience, too.

Also, filling the river and storm drain could link to the collapsing of Dam, seeing one change affect even the southern areas of Verdansk.

Avalanche Over Quarry & Military Base

Quarry and Military Base are two of the most popular drops points on Warzone’s map, yet they’re both fairly removed from some of the zones.

With snowy hills to the north, particularly those over Military Base’s side, it would be cool to see an avalanche happen in-game that completely changes those areas.

The main runway is very open as of Season 4 and there’s not much to the east of it. There’s plenty of room for an avalanche to change the surrounding, dragging debris from Military Base to other locations.

Also, since Bunker 11 surely has something to do with what’s happening, it would make sense for any Warzone map changes to take place in the north of Verdansk in Season 4.

Add More Famous Maps

Verdansk is full of familiar landmarks: The prison in the southeast is from the Gulag level of Modern Warfare 2’s campaign; the east side of Port is a direct recreation of Vacant from CoD 4’s multiplayer, and many of the buildings have the same layout as those from the iconic Overgrown map.

That isn’t where the familiar locations end though, with you being able to areas across Warzone’s map that come from a variety of multiplayer maps. It would be nice if even more were added.

Of course, Infinity Ward is limited by wanting to stick to the story of the Modern Warfare series, which means they can’t go and add maps from the likes of WWII or Black Ops, but there are plenty of options for new locations. They don’t even have to big huge named landmarks, with it being possible to integrate them into existing open areas.

Remember Creek from the CoD 4 map pack (where Broadcast has already been taken from to create TV Station)? Parts of that could come to the areas north of Farmland, or Crash could be moved into the open area west of airport.

Without wanting to overcrowd Verdansk, there’s plenty of opportunities for Infinity Ward to add new nostalgia-fueled locations in their bid to incorporate new Warzone map changes for Season 4.
