Uncharted 4 Won’t Let Me Kill This Deer

Not that I wanted to or anything..

Look, I don’t specifically want to kill the deer. But I did try, and Uncharted 4 wouldn’t let me.

A little context: during the first half of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Nathan and Sam Drake head to a snowy valley. A valley full of life, and deer, and deer with life. Life I can’t interfere with, because my gun is magically disabled whenever I train it on said deer.

You’ll inevitably come across the same deer I did. It stands on a distant hill along your route, eating grass and enjoying its immortality. Get too close and it’ll scurry away, whether or not you tried to murder it like me.

Pictured below, my crosshair goes dark as I contemplate adding an innocent animal to Nate’s long list of homicides. After an appropriate amount of moral debate, I try pulling the trigger, but nothing happens. He can destroy an entire Madagascar village, but this antlered creature is just too good to join the thousands of deaths, the gallons of blood on Nate’s hands.

The crosshair will reappear if  you remove it from nature’s precious child.

But there it goes disappearing once Nathan starts feeling murdery again.

Even though Uncharted 4 has an entire trophy dedicated to Nathan’s homicidal shooting sprees, the line is drawn here. Probably for the best because, again, I did try to kill it.
