Ling Qi Season 2

Ling Qi adaptation

Ling Qi is a Chinese series that became popular in Japan and the US. It follows the story of Yang Jinghua who woke up after an accident and was shocked to discover he seemed to be 10 years younger. While he inititally thought he had been reborn, a new character by the name of Duanmu Xi appeared and explained that the situation was far grimmer than Yang imagined. It’s not necessarily the most unique narrative as there are plenty of anime that follow the route of someone dying and then signing a contract with their soul, but Ling Qi executes this narrative in an impressive way. The series’ beautiful animation and soundtracks, well-timed pacing, and cast of characters are truly interesting to learn about, too.

Ling Qi 2 is the second part of the series and the second time it has received a Japanese anime adaptation. Ling Qi season 1 has already been available, but its Japanese animation counterpart releases on February 24.

Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou

Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou, or Let’s Decorate the Promised Flowers in the Farewell Morning, is an upcoming drama and fantasy anime movie slated to release on February 24. The story is about a young woman from an incredibly unique family. Maquia and all her family members stop aging once they hit their mid-teens. While life is peaceful and simple for Maquia, she can’t fight off the lonely feelings she has brewing inside of her. Eventually, however, even her peace and quiet is stolen from her when the army becomes hell-bent on learning the secrets behind this family’s immortality. Their desires ultimately rob Maquia of her family and her home and a new journey begins to unfold after she stumbles upon a baby boy alone in the forest.

Hugtto Precure!

If you look at Huggto Precure’s cast and animation style, you might expect this to be more of a slice of life anime. While it’s not, it certainly has a strong appeal for anyone who typically finds action anime to be far too intense for their liking. Huggto Precure is definitely a series with a niche, and you have to be willing to get into a very cutesy anime just to make it through the first episode. Nono Hana is the protagonist of the series. She’s an 8th grade student who wants nothing more than to be just like her big sister, who has a radiant personality and is practically overflowing with positivity and maturity.

One day Hana comes across a baby named Hug-tan and her fairy guardian. As fate would have it, she also learns of an evil organization determined to take away everyone’s tomorrow. This is getting deep into the cutesy concept I mentioned earlier. Hana makes a wish to be able to help baby Hug-tan and the world and is granted her own Mirai Crystal so she can transform into a hero herself. Keep in mind that this is a G-rated anime. It’s clean as a whistle, intended to appeal to younger audiences, and filled with sparkles. It’s also, somehow, incredibly entertaining to watch.

IDOLiSH7 Vibrato

IDOLiSH7 Vibrato is actually a spin-off series of the IDOLiSH7 anime. This series of anime shorts will be streamed exclusively on YouTube as a YouTube Original and is slated to debut on February 17. If you’re not familiar with the IDOLiSH7 series, the anime is based on a video game of the same name. The game requires you to manage the seven unique personalities that make up this pop group in order to take them all to the top. All of the game’s characters are featured in the anime series and their personalities are fleshed out a bit more as well. IDOLiSH7 Vibrato won’t actually focus on the group fans know best though. Instead, it will give a look at the formation and origins of their rival group Trigger. If you’re a fan of this musically-focused type of anime or just a fan of the IDOLiSH7 game, the YouTube Original spin-off will likely impress you.
