Sucker Punch

Ah, Sucker Punch. Beloved developers behind the Sly Cooper and Infamous franchises. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from them–the last game they released was the standalone Infamous: First Light, in Aug. 2014. Sure, they provided an update to it and Second Son so they could run on PS4 Pro, but we wanna see what you guys are hiring for, and it seemed like the PlayStation Experience would be the best place to show it after missing out on E3.

But it looks like yet again, we’ll have to just wait and see what they’re cooking up. Is it another Infamous title? Something new? Will they finally go back to Sly Cooper and pick up where Thieves in Time left off? No one but them knows, and it’ll have to stay that way until a time they deem fit.

God of War

god of war

Everyone was surprised (but not really) at the announcement of a new God of War title at this year’s E3. The music from Bear McCreary, the slow reveal of Kratos being an older man with a beard, it was well-timed and perfect. Since then, the details on the next entry in the series are scarce; all we know is that the Ghost of Sparta has a son and that he’s somehow ended up in the time of the Vikings, trading in his Blades of Chaos for a single ax. The PlayStation Experience couldn’t be a better time to show off more of his upcoming title.

Sadly, that’s not the case. Aside from maybe a quick glimpse in the sizzle reel, Kratos and son were nowhere to be found at the conference. While the game still has a vague release date of next year, there’s no reason to at least acknowledge it concretely. God of War is one of their biggest franchises, so it’s more than a little surprising that it was absent.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man

Another title that got a surprise reveal at E3, the next game from the Wall-Crawler will be developed by none other than the studio behind Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive. With a new costume and a promise from Marvel to match developers with their characters accordingly, it looks like it’ll be a definite hit when it releases, one that we definitely want to see more of.

Given that Sony, as a whole, shares partial custody of the Spider-Man brand, you’d think that the upcoming superhero game would show up at the PlayStation Experience, especially considering that the E3 footage is being used in commercials. Earlier this week before the event, Insomniac said that they wouldn’t be showing any more footage of their Spider-game until 2017, sadly. It makes sense, given that the Spider-hype will be at its biggest because of the upcoming movie next July, but doesn’t make things suck any less.

FromSoftware

bloodborne

FromSoftware is hard at work on the final piece of Dark Souls III DLC, and we get that. But at the same time, Bloodborne still stands as one of the best games on the PS4 right now, and with the Old Hunters expansion now out, it’s more than likely they’re making a sequel. (And if they’re not, they totally should, because the world needs more crushingly difficult steampunk/horror titles.)

From is big enough to work on two titles at once, clearly, and with Souls wrapping up fairly soon, people are going to be wondering just what comes next for them. It’d be more surprising to learn that they weren’t doing Bloodborne 2, considering how much of a critical and financial success it was for the studio, and how it currently stands in the top of Souls games for many fans. We’re sure their next announcement (whatever it is) is coming soon, but this just felt like an easy layup that someone refused to make.

Fighting the Square Enix CEO in Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV

Okay, so Final Fantasy XV is cool and all, but you know what could make it better? Going up against Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda in a boss fight for the ages. No, really, that’s gonna be a thing, and the PlayStation Experience should have been the place to announce it in full. Make it a PS4-timed exclusive and everything.

Square and PlayStation go way back, and given how Nintendo has been able to have fun with Reggie Fils-Aime during his live events, it would be smart for Sony to take a page outta their playbook. Then, once Matsuda shows up with a replica of the sword onstage, show off the trailer and announce that it’d be coming to the PS4. For free. Tonight. After the reveal of the Resident Evil 7 demo and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 hitting later tonight, that would be a great trifecta.
