Disgaea 5 Complete

Disgaea 5 complete, switch, port

The Disgaea series has always found another home on handheld devices, such as the PSP and PS Vita. The same can be said for the Disgaea 5 Complete port, which found its way to the Nintendo Switch nearly two years ago.

Like most Disgaea ports, 5 Complete came with all of the content released so far. The series is known for having a boatload of DLC, and all of that was neatly packaged into the Complete Edition. And while Disgaea 5 Complete is also on PC, it lacks the network functions that the Nintendo Switch comes with.

On top of that, the Switch also has another edge with its portability factor. Letting you take the game with you on-the-go is perfect for those long maps that you can’t really finish in one sitting. Wrap all of these factors together and you have one of the best ports on the Nintendo Switch.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

switch, port

The Monster Hunter series has always had a place on Nintendo systems, and while it isn’t MH World, fans could finally take their hunting ventures on-the-go with Generations Ultimate. Originally on the 3DS, this enhanced Switch port comes with a few extras that set it apart from the smaller Nintendo handheld.

Both versions come with all of the previously-released (free) DLC, including crossovers with other games such as Street Fighter, Animal Crossing, and Devil May Cry.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on the Switch comes with an extra Breath of the Wild collaboration that lets you dress as Link and your trusty cat companion as a cute korok.

Content aside, the upgraded port also comes with enhanced visuals and a better framerate, which makes the hunts all the smoother.

If you own the game on the 3DS, you can even transfer your save file over to this version and pick up right where you left off. All that said, the best portable hunting experience is definitely MHGU on the Switch.

Diablo III: Eternal Collection

Even before Diablo III was ported to the Switch, fans had been extremely supportive of the idea. Following a few leaks, Blizzard went ahead and finally did it, and it has been one of their best decisions yet.

The Diablo Switch port is bundled with all of the previously-released content so far, along with a new crossover with Breath of the Wild.

Players can unlock some Zelda goodies that lets you dress your avatar as the infamous Ganondorf. You can also grab a Cucco pet, along with some cool wings and a Triforce portrait frame, which are all exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version.

It isn’t all perfect, however, since the Eternal Collection does take a few technical hits to fit on the Switch. The port does compensate for it with the portability factor, letting you take the game wherever you go.

You can stay at home at finish those long raids or wrap up a few quests before bed. Having that flexibility is one of the best things about finally having a full-fledged portable Diablo (we’re not looking at you, Immortal).

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley, switch, port

The hit indie farming game is available across all platforms, from PC to mobile devices, but we all know that its real home is on the Nintendo Switch. The Switch’s flexibility and portability offer just about everything a farming fan would want.

While Stardew Valley doesn’t exactly have any added features on the Switch, it more than makes up for it with its fast updates. The Switch version is the first console port to get multiplayer, and you can play both online and locally. While iOS and Android might have the portability, it won’t let you farm with others.

Thanks to the handheld and docked modes, you can enjoy the best of both worlds when farming on the Switch. For those long sessions, you can hook it up to your TV and play the day away.

On the other hand, you can use the handheld mode if you’re on the move or just want to check up on your farm. For all it has to offer, Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch is pretty much the best way to play.

Skyrim

Skyrim’s been ported to nearly everything (even the Amazon Echo) since it first launched in 2011. While the game no doubt looks gorgeous on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it lacks one thing that the Switch offers: portability.

Having the option to actually bring Skyrim wherever you go on a functional device that isn’t clunky and requires a mouse and keypad is nothing short of astounding, to say the least.

How Iron Galaxy managed to cram every inch of Skyrim into the Switch cartridge is beyond us, but it’s one damn good port. While the Switch version has taken some minor technical hits, the game is still very much playable and looks good too.

Not only that, but this Nintendo Switch port also has a Breath of the Wild crossover costume that gives you Link’s clothes, along with his iconic sword and shield for a complete look.

The only thing the Switch port really lacks is mod support, but if that doesn’t bother you, then the Switch version is the way to go. Thanks to the console’s flexibility, exploring Skyrim has never been easier.
