Nintendo’s E3 Direct presentation is now over and while we got some amazing announcements, we still have some questions after it ended. Here are some of our thoughts about what was missing and what we wished we saw during the presentation.
Where Is Bayonetta 3?
The heavily anticipated new entry in the 3rd-person character action series, Bayonetta, was missing in action at E3 again this year.
While we did know that PlatinumGames and Nintendo would be showing off Astral Chain, we thought we would at least get a new trailer or some glimpses of gameplay for Bayonetta 3, yet nothing of the sort appeared during the forty-minute direct presentation.
The game is still shrouded in mystery as the only trailer we have currently is a cinematic teaser previously shown during The Game Awards show all the way back in 2017.
PlatinumGames seems to be very busy at the moment with many projects, but let’s all just hope that they’re just looking to release new information at the right time when people’s minds are elsewhere. They were most likely looking to keep the focus on Astral Chain at this year’s E3, in which they also showed off some amazing looking gameplay during Nintendo’s Treehouse live stream.
We hope to finally see some more about Bayonetta 3 at the end of this year or at least the beginning of 2020.
Will We Ever See What Retro Studios Was Working on Before Metroid Prime 4?
We are well aware now that Retro Studios is helping in the creation of Metroid Prime 4. However, before this, there was supposedly another project Retro was working on that may never see the light of day. No one knows what this project was, but some were speculating that it was a new Star Fox racing game rumored to be titled “Star Fox Grand Prix”.
There were also some rumblings about a new F-Zero game being developed, but nothing was ever shown.
Either way, whether these rumors were true or not, it’s clear that Retro will now be fully committed to crafting and aiding Nintendo in making Metroid Prime 4. Hopefully, whatever the previous project was, it won’t be fully scrapped and will become something more in the future.
When Is Luigi’s Mansion 3 Releasing?
While we loved everything we saw from the new trailer and gameplay of Luigi’s Mansion 3, we sadly still didn’t get a definitive release date for the game. However, we did learn that it would at least be coming in 2019.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 is the next entry in the quirky game starring Luigi, in which he is looking for his brother Mario. Luigi must explore a creepy mansion that is filled with horrors and shrouded in mystery.
It was cool to see how the series has evolved in the footage that was shown during Nintendo’s Direct and their Treehouse live stream. Luigi can now swing ghosts around like ragdolls with his vacuum cleaner and a lot of the gameplay we saw seemed like a unique blend of exploration and action (not seen as the focus of previous titles).
What’s Next for a Mainline Mario Game?
So, with the incredibly anticipated Super Mario Maker 2 on the horizon, there’s a lot to love and enjoy for Mario fans at the moment.
Also, while it’s nice that Luigi is finally getting the spotlight with Luigi’s Mansion 3, a lot of Mario fans are still wondering what Mario’s next big adventure will be.
Back in 2017, Super Mario Odyssey wowed us all and showed us that a big Mario game with incredible visuals could be achieved on a portable machine, but now it’s been almost 2 years since that game released and fans of the little Italian plumber want to know what will be next for him.

When Will We Finally See More of Metroid Prime 4?
It wouldn’t be a “Questions After Watching Nintendo’s E3 Direct” piece if we didn’t mention the highly anticipated title by Nintendo and Retro Studios, Metroid Prime 4.
Originally announced during E3 2017, fans of the Metroid series were granted a quick teaser trailer of just the logo with the number 4, solidifying the fact that a true sequel to Metroid Prime 3 was in the works. During this teaser reveal, there was no mention on who would be developing the game, no footage of the game, any cinematics, or even a release window.
A Metroid Prime sequel on Switch was an extremely exciting prospect as the previous titles in the series were widely loved on the GameCube and Nintendo Wii.
Then, it was in January of this year when Nintendo came clean about the status of Metroid Prime 4. Sadly, the title was not meeting Nintendo’s standard of quality and they were not currently happy with its progress.
Nintendo described that most of the game would be scrapped and Retro Studios would begin working on the title so it could match player’s expectations.
This means that Metroid Prime 4 will now be farther on the horizon than ever before, but knowing that Nintendo cares about the quality and success of the game at least gives us hope that when it does show up, we will be amazed at what we end up seeing.
While most of us weren’t expecting to see the game at this year’s Nintendo E3 Direct, we still can’t lie and say we didn’t want to at least be reminded of its existence.
