The end of each calendar year always seems jam packed with some awesome games to play. Additionally, thanks to E3, we now have release dates, among other details, on some of the biggest games that are to be for the rest of the year. Here’s how much money you’ll be doling out for the third quarter of the calendar year, which begins on July 1 and ends on September 30. Just keep in mind that the following figures were obtained as the list prices on Amazon, are rounded up to the nearest dollar, and do not account for taxes.
RPGS
July will not only bring in some hot summer weather, but it will also signal a time of the year that features some serious time sinks. Between Square Enix’s JRPGs I Am Setsuna and Final Fantasy XV, players will delve back into the shoes of Adam Jensen with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The Banner Saga 2 will also come to the Xbox One and PS4, after debuting on the PC a few months ago. World of Warcraft: Legion, an expansion on the popular MMO, launches on August 30, and will cost current World of Warcraft subscribers $40. For the standard editions of all the upcoming RPGs in the third quarter, it’ll run you $440.
Sports
With the third quarter comes EA’s barrage of sports games that includes traditional retail releases of FIFA 17, Madden NFL17, and NBA 2K17. All of the aforementioned have the propensity to turn into some of the best-selling titles of the year. You can also pick up the retail edition of Rocket League with the Collector’s Edition for a reduced cost at $30, as well as retail releases of Forza Horizon 3 and The King of Fighters XIV. Finally, F1 2016 rounds out a collection of sport games that’ll cost you at least $330 for the standard editions.
But are you a collector? The King of Fighter’s Burn to Fight Premium Edition is $80, as well as the Deluxe Editions of FIFA 17 and Madden NFL 17. Commemorate Kobe Bryant’s last year in the NBA with the NBA 2K17 Gold Legend Edition and snag the Ultimate Edition of Forza Horizon 3 for $100 each. All told, every premium edition for these sports games with all the bells and whistles, will cost you $440.
Action-Adventures
There are a number of highly anticipated games coming out in the action-adventure genre in the third quarter, and like the other entries it will cost players a pretty penny. Looking to finally take flight in a living, breathing, intergalactic universe? Fork up $60 for No Man’s Sky. XCOM 2 arrives on consoles for $60 in September. Smaller titles, such as Inside, Lost Sea, Read Only Memories, 88 Heroes, and Song of the Deep look to be $20 a piece. ARK: Survival Evolved finally comes to the PS4 after dwelling in Early Access for quite some time for $60, and ReCore will cost Xbox One and Windows 10 owners $40.
Licensed games are also, well, maybe not “well” represented, but they are here this quarter. Ghostbusters, based on the new movie from Paul Feig, will run $50. Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS-Force is $55, and Attack on Titan is a full priced game going at $60. Finally, the hotly anticipated Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice runs onto the Wii U for a cool $40. All together, for standard editions only, it’ll run you about $675 for all the major action-adventure games coming out in the third quarter.
Grand Total
To buy every single game that comes out this quarter, it’ll cost an estimated $1155, and that’s before taxes. That is also the estimated price for the standard editions, without any discounts. Several of the games taken into account are digital only, but there are also ways to cut the costs for each game. Subscribing to Amazon Prime nets you 10% off any new game release, and GameStop allows you to trade in your unwanted games for money off your next purchase. Also, several of the account games are already available on the PC. If you take those games out of the equation, as well as any remasters, you’re looking to spend around $955 on games just coming out in the third quarter alone. Anyway you cut it, it’s looking like this quarter of gaming wants to suck our wallets dry.
