Sony has a lot going on in its short-term future. Alongside stepping into the realm of virtual reality with its PlayStation VR (PSVR) hardware, the company also revealed its latest addition to the PS4 family: the PS4 Pro. With these latest releases on the horizon, it’s quite likely that Sony fans out there have already started wondering about what all of this new tech is going to cost.

To help you with that, we’ve broken down a bunch of the products you’re probably going to want to keep up with the future of the PS4. Of course, one or two of these may not apply to you depending on whether or not Sony’s plans interest you, but it’s a good barometer nonetheless.

First things first is Sony’s powerhouse system, the PS4 Pro. Able to display games in 4K and utilize HDR technologies, the PS4 Pro works out at just over twice as powerful as the current PS4. Though it’s not likely to offer drastically different experiences in terms of gameplay, and won’t be receiving any exclusive titles, this is a piece of tech that anyone seeking the best-looking experiences will be interested in.

The PS4 Pro was revealed to set you back $399 when it releases Nov. 10. You’ll get everything you need inside the box, and all of your current PS4 games will play on the system just fine. You won’t have to pay for any updates to get your games utilizing this additional horsepower either, although the extent to the visuals in games are improved comes down to the developer’s discretion.

PSVR

Next up is Sony’s venture into virtual reality. Named PlayStation VR or PSVR for short, the tech will allow players to experience games in a way like never before. Headtracking and motion controls are both used to put you in the very center of your gaming worlds, bringing a whole new realm of immersive experiences. It will also include a cinema mode, allowing users to wear their headset and play ordinary games on a giant cinema-sized virtual screen.

The PSVR headset itself will set you back $399.99, but unfortunately, the cost doesn’t stop there. If you don’t already have the PlayStation Camera and two PS Move controllers, you’ll have to factor these in, too. To give you a rough idea of how much these will cost, Sony announced a launch bundle which included the VR headset, cables, stereo headphones, PlayStation VR demo disc, PlayStation Camera, 2 Move motion controllers, and PlayStation VR Worlds for $499.99. It was also noted following the reveal of the Pro that the new system would provide a much better VR experience, something you may want to keep in mind if you’re looking at picking up this new way to play.

VR Games

Assuming you don’t just want to play PlayStation VR Worlds all the time on your brand new piece of hardware, you’re going to need some more VR games to truly test out this entirely new way to play. Unfortunately, that’s going to come once again at a cost.

Let’s assume you pick up three games to try out on your new tech: Batman: Arkham VR, RIGS Mechanized Combat League, and Eagle Flight VR. Going from prices currently on Amazon.com, you’d be looking at an another $109.94. This doesn’t factor in other smaller, downloadable games you may be interested in that are likely to release before the end of the year, also. Better top up the running total.

A Fancy New TV

Okay, so in reality, you’ve got all of the new PlayStation products you’ll need, and you’ve got games to keep you occupied. However, depending on what TV you’re currently using, you may not be getting the most out of your brand-new console. While this isn’t going to be a problem if you’re enamored with PSVR, not everyone may opt for the virtual reality future. In which case, you may want to pick up a nice shiny new TV.

If that’s the case, you’ll probably want to get a 4K HDR TV. These offer some of the best picture quality around, and will ensure you’re making the most of the technology inside your PS4 Pro. Though you definitely don’t have to go from Sony’s recommendation, they suggest a 60″ TV to ensure you’re really getting the most from the 4K resolution. Pricing up one of Sony’s 65″ 4K HDR TVs comes in at $1499.99. If you’re not too bothered about having a screen that could potentially cover one of the four walls of your living room, a 43″ Sony 4K HDR TV from Best Buy costs $649.99. Now, let’s run these two totals up.

PS4 Pro + PSVR + Games + smaller 4K HDR TV: $1659.91

There you have it. If you’re wanting to experience the latest and greatest in PlayStation technology, have some new VR titles to experience it with, and play it all on a nice new screen capable of making the most of your new console, you’re looking at least over $1500. It’s probably a good idea to get saving.
