5 Ways That Fall Guys Can Keep Itself Relevant

Fast-Paced Seasonal Schedule

By far the most important factor in Fall Guys not turning into a short-lived fad is that it needs to constantly evolve in a similar fashion that other battle royale games such as Fortnite have done.

Fall Guys is a very fun game, but if there’s one consistent knock on it is that it can get quite a bit repetitive. There’s a limited amount of minigames and the chase for a crown will only sustain some players for so long, especially if they have already won one before.

Fortunately, it appears that developer Mediatonic recognizes this and is going to be giving Fall Guys frequent updates through their planned seasonal model.

Despite Fall Guys only being about a month old, Mediatonic has already teased Season 2. It will be a Medieval-themed season and will feature appropriately themed costumes and new minigames too.

New Game Modes

Regular Fall Guys gameplay is pretty much perfect for what it is trying to be and it doesn’t really need to be tweaked much at all.

That said, it doesn’t mean that Mediatonic should shy away with coming up with other creative ways for players to enjoy the game aside from the traditional single-player battle royale experience.

The most obvious possible addition would be a team mode that could feature only team-based minigames once Mediatonic is able to build up a larger bank of them.

If Mediatonic really wanted to push the envelope, imagine with me for a moment a game mode that plays similarly to Mario Party featuring the Fall Guys minigames. Sounds pretty great doesn’t it?

Switch Release

Releasing through PS Plus seems like a smart move that should buy Fall Guys a lot of time in the spotlight. It’s a strategy that worked out very well for Rocket League and it seems like it could work out for Fall Guys in the long term as well.

That said, the Nintendo Switch is such a popular console with its own built in population of more casual gamers that wouldn’t typically own a PS4 or a gaming PC.

Fall Guys is a game that would likely appeal to many fans of Nintendo’s popular IPs as it has a similar whimsical vibe, and is very easy for anyone to pick up and play.

There’s no firm confirmation that Fall Guys is coming to the Switch other than a vague mention from Mediatonic that they would like to see Fall Guys come out to other platforms and to voice support.

If the launch is successful, capturing the large Switch audience of less-hardcore gamers would certainly keep Fall Guys relevant for quite some time.

Next-Gen Releases

PS5 Xbox Series X

Along similar lines, Fall Guys doesn’t want to regulate itself to being a last-gen game once it’s, you know, officially a last-gen game after the PS5 comes out.

As popular as the PS4 still is now, those of us that have experienced generational shifts will recall how quickly the shift over to the new consoles takes place once some big-time next-gen games start coming out.

As of right now, Fall Guys’ next-gen plans are unclear. By Sony’s alleged rules for end of generation games, it should be playable in some way for the PS5, but there has been no confirmation just yet. There’s also no word on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X release either.

Mediatonic has time to sort this all out, as the generational shift won’t happen instantly, and also the PS5 doesn’t even have a release date yet.

That said, there will come a point where a large portion of gamers will want to clear shelf space and many PS4s may end up in a closet somewhere once the next-gen gets going.

Sure, the PC version could carry the game, but it’ll be better for Fall Guys’ relevancy if it eventually also releases on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch.

Crossplay

Once all of the above is settled adding crossplay would be the icing on the cake.

Crossplay would not only allow friends across all consoles to enjoy Fall Guys together, but it would also ensure that there’s always a stable population for as long as possible.

If Mediatonic does eventually add new modes, having more players in one big pool would also help improve the quality of those games.

The most important thing that needs to be achieved for Fall Guys to stay relevant is that it needs to be fun. Fortunately for everyone, it is indeed an incredibly fun game that has wide-ranging appeal.

If Fall Guys can check all those other boxes in this article, it’s hard not to see how it’s not a mainstay for years to come.
