#FaceAppChallenge: Video Game Character Edition

faceappchallenge, video game characters, aged, old

If you’re on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or pretty much any other social media app, then you’ve probably seen people posting morphed photos of themselves via the FaceApp application, tagging their pictures with #FaceAppChallenge.

The app allows you to use any photo of any person and you have the option to see the face changed into the opposite gender, a younger version, and also an aged version –which is the one that’s been the most popular as of late.

It’s really funny to see your friends, family members, and significant other as an old person, but how funny would it be to check out some famous video game characters in a new light? I’m talking about old age.

We picked 15 photos of various video game characters, put ’em through the aging process using FaceApp and we just had to share the results with the masses! Here is the #FaceAppChallenge: Video Game Edition.

Let’s start off with everyone’s favorite moody, big-sword wielding hero from FF7, Cloud Strife:

Cloud – Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Cloud and Aerith both look gorgeous in the most recent trailers for the upcoming FF7 Remake, but aged Cloud looks like he literally does not care at all about Aerith’s gift to him.

He’s done with everything and this is probably how these characters are going to look once all of the “episodes” of FF7 are finally released to the public.

I think Cloud has definitely failed the #FaceAppChallenge.

Ellie – The Last of Us

It’s shocking that we still do not have a solid release date for Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic, third-person narrative-focused PlayStation exclusive, The Last of Us: Part II.

From the looks of Ellie in this FaceApp photo, it seems like she’s tired of waiting as well. C’mon Naughty Dog!

Aloy – Horizon: Zero Dawn

I was surprised how well Aloy’s aged version looks in this photo. I feel like this is genuinely how Aloy would look if she were to age in the next Horizon game.

How cool would it be if we played as a different protagonist (like her grandchild) and old Aloy would teach us everything that she knew? I’m down for that.

Just look at her eyes –she looks like she’s done and seen so much stuff, stuff that needs to be passed down before she kicks the bucket.

Deacon – Days Gone

Ouch. Deacon St. John — the years have not treated you well my good friend.

After the not-so-hot critical reception that Days Gone received earlier this year, it seems that Deacon hasn’t taken the news lightly. Fighting off all of those Freakers day in and day out must’ve really got to him.

We’re glad to see Deacon participating in the #FaceAppChallenge though.

Sora – Kingdom Hearts 3

Even though Sora looks like a grandma in his old age, he still has that dumb smile even after all of the ridiculous crap that he’s gone through to save the world in the multiple Kingdom Hearts games.

We commend Sora for staying diligent even after all of these years. Now, I wonder if old age looks as good on Donald and Goofy? Honestly, I’m scared to find out so we left them off of this list. Seriously, don’t try it! The #FaceAppChallenge is not for them.

Nero – Devil May Cry 5

Nero already had gray hair before this aged version of him, so I guess he was just preparing for the inevitable. Still, even with fewer teeth and wrinkles, I’m sure he can use that sword of his with perfect precision and strength.

He also looks like one of those old guys who wear leather jackets and ride motorcycles to seem hip and “with it.”

Leon Kennedy – Resident Evil 2

Somebody! Please get Leon Kennedy away from the Racoon City Police Department. Leon looks as if he’s been trapped in there for a millennium and needs somebody to rescue him or just to tell him that the zombies have been gone for fifty years or so.

He still hears the growls and rumblings of zombies all through the night… poor man.

Lara Croft – Tomb Raider

Wondering what Lara Croft has been up to in her old days? She’s still uncovering massive secrets and taking on despicable cults and hey, she even keeps fit! Don’t let old age take you down!

Lara is as beautiful as ever and I would not want to be on her bad side –I’m not ready to take an arrow to the knee.

Noctis – Final Fantasy XV

Talk about a road trip for the ages.

Noctis as an old man is honestly not what I expected but can you blame him? The dude has been through so much in his life that this picture is actually him at 40 –oomph.

Nathan Drake – Uncharted

Woah. Is it just me, or does Nathan Drake look really similar to Sully in his old age? Drake still has the charm and chiseled good looks to make him one of the most attractive treasure hunters out there.

His secret to his good looks, you ask? It’s all of the climbing. It’s the best workout out there, didn’t you know?

Claire Redfield – Resident Evil 2

Claire Redfield looks like she’s very tired of protecting people from deadly creatures and strange tall men like Mr.X. Don’t let her looks fool you, she will blow your brain up with her trusty shotgun. She just doesn’t care.

A giant mutated alligator? Get out of her way. A drugged-up scientist with a huge bulging eye? Who even are you? A potential love interest? Not intrigued.

Chun-Li – Street Fighter

Who knew that all of the kicking and… um… more kicking would make Chun-Li such a stunning older woman. She may have a few wrinkles here and there and some heart problems, but she’s still kicking it up.

Aerith – Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The internet sort of freaked out when they first got a look at Aerith’s new design in FF7 Remake, but in the best way possible. She’s super-gorgeous so it’s not surprising to see that aged Aerith is just as stunning.

She retains her youth with her hair tied up in her famous red bow and her eyes are as beautiful as ever.

Kassandra – Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

The diet of the citizens of Ancient Greece must work wonders on the skin because the lead female protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Kassandra, still looks as fabulous as ever.

She doesn’t take no for an answer and you can still find her accepting strange side-quests from her fellow neighbors and passersby. She may seem a bit tired of it all, but hey, you gotta make your money and gain experience somehow.

Riku – Kingdom Hearts 3

Even though Sora is still smiling even after hitting his golden years, Riku looks a little jaded. He’s not as strong or youthful as he used to be, but he still keeps up with Sora’s adventures because that’s what best friends do.

Are there any other video game characters that you guys put through the #FaceAppChallenge? If you have any good ones, feel free to share them here with us in the comments section!
