Glavenus first made its appearance in Monster Hunter Generations back on the 3DS, but now this sharp-tailed wyvern is back and ready to rumble in the new expansion.

This is yet another T-Rex-like monster but its tail is shaped like a sword and is just as sharp –it can even use its tail to create explosions as if its fire breath wasn’t enough.

Cutting this monster’s tail off first and foremost should be the main goal whenever you come face to face with this Cutting Wyvern.

Fulgur Anjanath

The Anjanath was a new large monster that was introduced in the base game for Monser Hunter: World and is basically a fire-breathing T-Rex from the looks of it.

It’s not afraid to get up all in your Kool-Aid, but it’s usually pretty easy to take down if you come equipped with a weapon that has elements of fire or water in it.

Anjanath is returning to the new Iceborne expansion, but it’s a different variant named Fulgar Anjanath. Instead of using fire to take down its prey, it can channel electricity through its body to shock nearby opponents.

It’s also received quite the design change with stripes appearing all over its body.

Ebony Odogaron

The Odogaron was also a new monster introduced in World, and once his deadly and sharp claws got hold of you, it would cause major bleeding damage that can be really irritating if not taken care of.

It’s back in the new Hoarfrost region for the Iceborne expansion and it comes packing with an ever-powerful dragon element that makes this beast more vicious than ever before –meet Ebony Odogaron.

Barioth

I like to call Barioth one of the original ice monsters because it was introduced way back in Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii and is one of the hardest monsters to fight in the game if you’re a beginner. It’s fast, it’s agile, and its ice attacks will stop you in your tracks –literally.

It can use its wide ranged arms to deliver devastating attacks and its tail is also very long which is known to cause major damage as well. Oh, and watch out for its icy wind tornadoes –that attack is just brutal.

We’re very happy to see this one making a return –it’s meant to be considering Iceborne is all about… you know… ice.

Banbaro

Banbaro is a brand-new monster that will be making its debut in Iceborne. Once Banbaro lays its eyes on a potential target, it will stop at nothing to ram you with its hard-as-bone horns. It’s like a train that just won’t slow down until you stop it yourself.

We got to take this monster down during our playtime with the Iceborne demo at E3 2019 and had a blast jumping on its back and eventually showing it who’s the boss.

We recommend bringing along a heavy weapon so that you can destroy those antlers on its head because if you don’t, expect to take a lot of damage them.

Tigrex

Tigrex has been part of the Monster Hunter franchise for a very long time, first appearing in Monster Hunter Freedom 2, but now it’s back in Iceborne and it hits hard and it hits fast.

Tigrex doesn’t have a main type of element to attack its foes with, but it makes up for that with its sheer brute strength and ear-piercing roar that can stun hunters and break nearby objects.

Beotodus

Beotodus

Beotodus is a new piscine wyvern in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and is one of the first monsters that you’ll be facing off against once you step foot into Hoarfrost Reach.

Like some sort of ice shark monster, Beotodus can dive deep into the snow and hide underneath the soil, waiting for the perfect moment to attack. Once you find a way to knock this creature back onto the land, it’ll be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Nargacuga

One of my favorite monsters to ever grace the Monster Hunter franchise is finally back after skipping out on the latest entry and it’s ready to rumble. The Nargacuga is basically a mix of a cat and a bat and it does not play around.

It’s covered in all black fur and is extremely agile and violent –make sure you have a quick weapon to get some good hits on this ferocious beast.

Shrieking Legiana

Shrieking Legiana is a variant of the monster found in the base game of Monster Hunter: World, but this version is ice-based and has adapted to the frigid temperature of the Hoarfrost region introduced in the Iceborne expansion.

Legiana will be able to cover large areas (and hunters) with ice attacks and will dive down to take your health away before you even realize what’s happening. We’re excited to see how the Shreiking Legiana will differ in this new environment.

Brachydios

Brachydios was first introduced in Monster Hunter Tri, but the brute wyvern is expected to make a comeback to the series thanks to a tease in the latest trailer for the Iceborne expansion.

Velkhana

And last but not least, we have the most important monster to come to the new expansion. Velkhana is an elegant, awe-inspiring, and truly magnificent beast that acts as the new flagship elder dragon in MHW: Iceborne.

Velkhana can freeze the ground around you by spitting out fluid that immediately turns into ice when it hits an object.

Its huge wings will allow this monster to stay in the air for quite some time, so make sure to be prepared with some weapons that can get you high in the air like the Insect Glaive or come packing with some ammo and pods.
