GOLF Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples
Dumbest Video Game Titles
Golf games aren’t strangers to having names in their titles. The PGA Tour games have seen Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy on the cover and in the title.
The thing is, the 1995 game goes a bit further. Not only does it focus on 36 particularly great holes, rather than something generic and golfy, but it’s sponsored by GOLF Magazine.
It sounds more like an issue of GOLF Magazine, with Fred Couples guest editing a feature on 36 great holes, or something like that. As it is, it just seems like a few titles mangled together, acting more like a piece of marketing for the magazine and Fred Couples himself.
All of that and we haven’t gotten into the innuendos… but we’ll just leave it at that.
The more modern Golf Club games have boring titles in hindsight.
Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder
Dumbest Video Game Titles
Well, this title isn’t subtle, but neither is the game itself. It’s a racing game, basically, but you need to raise enough cash to bribe jurors and get Ma’ out of prison.
In Truck Me Harder, you’ll be wheeling and dealing and taking out opponents in your huge truck.
It’s the standard over-the-top racing game we saw countless times in the early 2000s. The racing is pretty generic and repetitive, but the title made you double take every time.
UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st]
Dumbest Video Game Titles
There are silly titles out there, there are unnecessarily long ones, there are some that give you no clue on what the game is about, and there are some that look like the person who decided what it was just smashed their forehead on the keyboard and gave it a thumbs up.
Then, there are games like UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st] that are all of those. What’s with the first half being capitalized and the second half not? What does ‘Exe:Late[st]’ mean? What kind of game is it and what’s it about? You can’t say the title does a good job of selling it to potential new fans.
So that you’re a littler wiser, it’s just one entry in a series of visual novel/2D fighting games.
Ninjabread Man
Dumbest Video Game Titles
Ninjabread Man isn’t the silliest name out there at first glance, but the idea of the game is ridiculous. If you’ve never heard of it, which wouldn’t be a surprise, it’s a 3D platformer in which you play as a gingerbread man… who is also a ninja.
You run around open world candy lands, swiping at weird cake creatures and collecting things as you go. It’s pretty generic stuff gameplay wise, but the ninjabread idea is certainly… unique.
Also, for some reason the gingerbread man looks suspiciously like the tortured one from Shrek.
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R
Dumbest Video Game Titles
According to Steam, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is an expanded version of Guilty Gear XX Acore Core. It’s a fighting game that’s all about combos and learning the large roster of characters.
The series is much like Kingdom Hearts. Not so much in the way of themes or gameplay – there’s no Donald Duck to see here – but more so in the way that it has a trend of using dumb game titles.
Guilty Gear is a decent name for a fighting series, but Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R just feels like they’ve slapped random works and letters on the end rather than coming up with an original or relevant subtitle.
Summer-Colored High School ★ Adolescent Record – A Summer At School On An Island Where I Contemplate How The First Day After I Transferred, I Ran Into A Childhood Friend And Was Forced To Join The Journalism Club Where While My Days As A Paparazzi Kid With Great Scoops Made Me Rather Popular Among The Girls, But Strangely My Camera Is Full Of Panty Shots, And Where My Candid Romance Is Going
I’m sorry for the insanely long heading but I’m not really the one to blame. Blame D3 Publisher, who are the people behind the game. It’s a Japanese game where you play as a school boy and explore the open world town taking pictures of things and people.
The title above is a translation of the Japanese title, but that doesn’t make the choice to go with it any more understandable. Why not just call it Paparazzi Kid or something like that? The non-sensical nature of it is probably down to the translation, but it’s basically just a description of what happened to the boy you play as and why he’s there.
Imagine if every game did that. Get ready for the new Nintendo Switch game: I Was a Hard-Working Plumber Living My Life in the Mushroom Kindgom or Italy, I Dunno, When Suddenly a Giant Turtle Monster Thing Kidknapped the Local Princess and It Was My Job to Head Out Into the World to Save Her Alongside My Weird Brother.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Dumbest Video Game Titles
Kingdom Hearts is known for the dumb. Dumb characters, dumb stories, and of course, dumb titles.
So… I apologise if I get this wrong but Kingdom Hearts 2.8 comes before Kingdom Hearts 3, but it’s also the final chapter of… well… something, and it’s the prologue to the final chapter, which it also is. Understand? No, neither do I.
There’s also Re:Chain of Memories, Final Mix, Re:coded, and some other dumb Kingdom Hearts titles. At this point, you just kind of have to accept that Kingdom Hearts is going to do this and it’s just best to go along with it.
htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary
Dumbest Video Game Titles
The Firefly Diary is pretty straightforward. That’s exactly the kind of vague but interesting kind of title you’d expect from an indie game.
You control a firefly who guides a girl named Mion through a series of platforming levels. The main name of the series though, is the dumbest.
Without looking it up, I’d have no clue how to even say htoL#NiQ. It’s a Japanese game that’s stylised that way, but called Hotaru no Nikki, but I prefer to just say it as it looks: Huhtolhashnick.
Touch Dic
Dumbest Video Game Titles
We’ve had nonsensical titles already, we’ve had stupidly long, but this one just made me chuckle a little.
I don’t think it would have done if this was done on purpose, trying to catch the eye of potential players with a controversial title and a wink of the eye. Touch Dic is a merry accident though.
It’s a Korean dictionary game for the Nintendo DS, so you’re using the touch screen to use a dictionary. So, it’s Touch… Dic. Get it?
There aren’t any developers laughing behind the scenes at how clever they’ve been though. Once people started to notice, the game was changed to Touch Dictionary, which isn’t nearly as funny.
Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code
Dumbest Video Game Titles
I know how they came up with this title. They covered their eyes, open the dictionary to a random page and pointed at a random word. They did that six times and it was decided, that was the name for their game.
In the same vein of other games on this list, it is a visual novel/fighting game that’s had more than one entry.
The actual series is called Melty Blood. I don’t know why, what it means, or how the additional four words change things up. If you want to know, you’re going to have to play it yourself. Although, I’m not confident even that would help you.
