My Time at Portia

My Time at Portia is a whimsical journey that takes cues from games such as Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, and Stardew Valley. Here, you play as your own character who inherits their father’s workshop in a quaint little town called Portia.

Farming takes a backseat here, as players will be spending most of their time crafting all sorts of different gadgets and gizmos to give to townsfolk or sell to make a profit. While you can make a living off farming, you’ll be doing plenty of other activities to make a name for yourself.

When you aren’t busy working, you can mingle with the townsfolk and woo someone in Portia. My Time at Portia is all about rebuilding your own life and making the best of it, really. While it isn’t as popular as some of the other simulation games out there, this one’s definitely worth a spin. You can check out our full review of the game if you want to learn more about it.

God Eater 3

God Eater has made a comeback this year with a third game, adding in a few new features on top of the classic hack-and-slash action. There’s still a heavy emphasis on character customization, and your avatar will take control of a weapon known as the God Arc and hunt deadly creatures called Aragami.

There is a range of different weapon styles you can use, and you can switch between them at almost any time. Best of all, you can embark on hunts with your friends. God Eater 3 supports up to four players in one mission, letting you take down ferocious monsters with others.

The latest entry in the series also expands on the lore, offering a fairly gripping story that keeps the game afloat when you aren’t off slaying Aragami. Speaking of missions, there’s no shortage of monsters you can hunt, each with their own attacks and deadly moves.

God Eater has never been the most popular hunting game, but the third entry is a great starting point for those who’ve always wanted to take a look at the series. You can check out our full review if you want to learn more about this Steam game.

Steins;Gate Elite

Those looking for a gripping storyline filled with action, drama, and comedy can turn to Steins;Gate Elite on Steam. This classic visual novel centers on an eccentric, self-proclaimed mad scientist named Rintaro Okabe and his motley group of friends.

During his research on time-traveling, he finds a way to shift between parallel universes and attempts to change the past to influence the future. Steins;Gate Elite is extremely plot-heavy and has different endings players can all explore. You’ll be making plenty of choices throughout the game, which will influence different outcomes as you continue playing.

This Steam version is actually updated and comes with scenes from the animated adaptation. There are also some new story routes that weren’t adapted in the anime. Take a look at our review for more details on this visual novel.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition

Tales of Vesperia has finally made it to the west outside of the Xbox platform with the Definitive Edition. Arguably one of the better Tales of games out there, Vesperia tells the tale of a world that relies on objects known as blastia to carry out tasks in people’s day-to-day lives. Out hero, Yuri Lowell, gets swept up in a grand ploy to save the world from the abuse of blastia.

Vesperia is a mixed bag of different characters, diverse landscapes, and a story that’s packed with hours of content. Unlike typical JRPGS, this Steam game dumps the turn-based battles for some real-time action. Each character has their own unique play style and special attacks in combat, making it all the more fun to chain attacks together.

If you’ve always wanted to try a Tales of game, you can’t go wrong with Vesperia’s Definitive Edition. With its hefty content (and special surprises mixed in), this game is sure to scratch any JRPG itch. Check out our full review for our thoughts on the game.

Onimusha: Warlords Remastered

It’s been nearly two decades since we’ve seen Onimusha: Warlords, and Capcom’s gone ahead and given it the remaster treatment. Apart from a few touch-ups here and there, series fans will be pleased to hear that it’s pretty much the same game.

Onimusha: Warlords Remastered still revolves around famed samurai Samanosuke Akechi who returns home at the request of his cousin, Princess Yuki. Upon arriving, he’s greeted with a grizzly sight of demons infesting the palace and running amok. He’s then given a gauntlet and one major task: kick some major demon ass.

The game comes with some tight combat and a few, albeit mind-boggling puzzles. Akechi can also switch between different weapons that come with their own combos and deal more damage depending on enemy weakness.

While Onimusha: Warlords Remastered gets a lot of things right, there are still some dated mechanics that haunt the game, such as awkward save points and unskippable cutscenes. For all it’s worth, however, the Steam game still manages to hold up pretty well. Read up on our full review to learn more.
