Fire Emblem Heroes is the next mobile game from Nintendo as the company continue its plan to take over another corner of gaming. Pokemon GO (from Niantic and The Pokemon Company) showed that there’s a high demand for Nintendo properties on smart devices, and Super Mario Run helped to cement that fact. While the last launch did have some issues out of the gate, Nintendo is slowly learning how to offer value and how to tailor mechanics to smartphones and tablets.

Fire Emblem Heroes will be a strategy RPG that should feel right at home on mobile devices. You can still expect the weapon triangle the series is known for, as well as the Trinity of Magic for you to keep in mind when making tough decisions. It will be interesting to see how one of Nintendo’s biggest handheld games turns out on phones as it kicks off February’s strong offerings.

Nioh – Feb. 9 (PS4)

Top February Game Releases

Nioh is an action-RPG set in a feudal Japan that is besieged by demons and other supernatural beings. Players will have to rely on their wits, reflexes, and ability to choose the best gear for encounters and perfect their fighting technique. Comparison’s to From Software’s Souls series are on the mark, as challenge is definitely a major feature of this February 2017 release.

This PS4 exclusive is coming to players from Team Ninja, the studio that created Dead or Alive, the modern Ninja Gaiden series, and brought Nintendo fans Hyrule Warriors Legends. The team is known for impressive combat and worthy challenges, so you should definitely keep an eye out for this game’s release if you happen to have a PS4.

For Honor – Feb. 14 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Top February Game Releases

For Honor is a competitive online game that trades guns and airstrikes for swords and shields. Players will have their pick between three formidable ancient warrior clans — Vikings, Knights, and Samurai. Battles play out in large zones with NPC soldiers filling the screen; push through them in order to reach your real life enemies.

There’s also a single-player campaign, but the real joy will come from chopping off your friend’s head in a duel as you scream Valhalla! at the top of your lungs. For Honor is full of intense fighting and joyous victories, and you should definitely mark its release on your calendar.

Sniper Elite 4 – Feb. 14 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Top February Game Releases

Sniper Elite 4 picks things up right where the previous entry left off. This time, players will be heading to Italy during World War II to help the resistance take out the fascists holed up in Italian homes.

If you’ve never played a Sniper Elite game, it’s a third person shooter that drops players alone into very dangerous territory. You’ll have to use your skills as a sniper to pull off seemingly impossible shots and help your side win the war. It sounds simple, but the physics, impressive visuals, and the joy of watching a perfectly placed shot hit its mark are not to be underestimated.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk – Feb. 21 (PS4, PC, Vita)

Top February Game Releases

If you’ve ever read the Berserk manga or seen the anime, you know that it’s full of copious amounts of gratuitous violence and tons of gore. Omega Force (developers of many Warriors/Musou-type games such as Hyrule Warriors, Samurai Warriors, and Attack on Titan) are bringing all of that to a brand new game that lets you experience the rush of being Guts as he plows his way through thousands of enemies in bloody fashion.

There are also many other prominent characters players will be able to take control of, each with unique ways of decimating foes and bathing the battlefields in blood. If you’re into Musou-type action and are looking for something a bit more mature, this is definitely one of the video games to keep on your radar this February.

Halo Wars 2 – Feb. 21 (Xbox One, PC)

Top February Game Releases

The Halo universe is one of Microsoft’s strongest properties, but it’s not only because of the main numbered entries. One of the series’ spin-offs is a RTS that puts players in control of the military as they fight against a new threat known as the Banished.

There aren’t too many great RTS video games on console, so this is definitely one to look out for if you’ve been wanting one. Also, it takes place shortly after the events of Halo 5: Guardians, giving a view of the world after everything that went down. The Xbox One doesn’t have much in the way of exclusives slated this year, but this looks to be a major one.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin – Feb. 21 (PSVR)

Top February Game Releases

While fans wait patiently for Psychonauts 2 – a fully fledged sequel to the instant classic platforming game from Double Fine Productions – the studio is providing a link between the two games exclusively for the PSVR. This time around, you won’t be partaking in any platforming action. However, you can still expect Double Fine’s signature humor to be plastered across this new VR experience.

Players will play more of a classic adventure game in the vein of those point-and-click games that Tim Schafer is known for. You’ll still have your powers such as telekinesis and pyrokineses as you solve puzzles. The PSVR is still a relatively new devices, so it’s good to have something exciting to pick up this month to wash away the nightmares that Resident Evil 7 brought to life in the headset.

Horizon Zero Dawn – Feb. 28 (PS4)

Top February Game Releases

Horizon Zero Dawn is the next big exclusive for the PS4, and it has held the attention of fans ever since it was announced at E3 2015. Guerrilla Games, known for their Killzone series of games, decided to try something new with an action-RPG set in a post, post-apocalyptic world. A world where you can see the remains of an ancient civilization (a near future of our current world), beneath the vibrant nature that has reclaimed its land.

What stands out most are the robotic beasts roaming the land and how humanity has been reduced back to a tribal system. Players will have to uncover what’s awakening these mechanical monstrosities while exploring a beautiful open-world that houses different environments and plenty of secrets. Who knows what awaits players as they step into the shoes of Aloy, the game’s heroine, but it sure looks to be one of the more impressive exclusives of the year.
