Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind

anime, best anime, october 2018, should watch

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has achieved cult status over the last few years, thanks in part to the plentiful memes that have popped up from the show, like the “to be continued” meme. Luckily, it also just happens to be a great anime adaption of its manga counterpart.

Golden Wind is the fourth season of the anime, and it takes place in Italy as Koichi Hirose is sent by Jotaro Kujo to find an aspiring mafia gangster, named Giorno Giovanna. However, it just so happens that Giorno is the son of Dio Brando. Golden Wind looks like it has the typical Jojo craziness, and the show follows Giorno as he makes his way through the ranks of the mafia organization Passione.

The last three seasons of Jojo have consistently proved themselves as one of the best shounen anime out there, with a wonderful mix of wackiness and intense battles. Golden Wind is one of the biggest anime premieres in October 2018, and it shouldn’t be missed.

Golden Win will premiere on Oct. 6, and Crunchyroll will be running the show, although we don’t have a day for simulcast yet.

ReRided – Derrida, who leaps through time

If you loved the time-traveling drama anime, Steins;Gate, then RErideD is a show you’re absolutely going to want to check out. RErideD is an entirely original anime that comes from the director of Steins;Gate, Takuya Sato, with characters designs by Yoshitoshi Abe, the character designer of Serial Experiments Lain.

The show follows Derrida Yvain an engineer famous for his invention the “Autonomous Machine DZ.” After he and a colleague notice a flaw in the machines they try to report it to the company they work for, Rebuild. Unfortunately, their reports are ignored and they find themselves under attack from mysterious enemies. Derrida escapes in a cold sleep machine, and wakes up a decade later to find the world ravaged by a war caused by his inventions.

RErideD is already a few episodes in, and while it certainly hasn’t blown anyone away, it still has an interesting central premise. There seem to be quite a few mysteries for the show to unravel. While only time will tell, it seems like RErideD could be another slow-burn story that picks up steam later, similar to Steins;Gate. You can catch it simulcast on Saturdays on Crunchyroll. The show will also hit Funimation on Oct. 22.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments

The Seven Deadly Sins was one of the standout anime of 2015, with some fantastic action and animation with fun characters to match it. The show definitely emulates elements of anime like Dragon Ball Z in its absurd action. Now, after an agonizing wait, fans of the show will finally get a second season on Netflix in October 2018.

The second season picks up right where the first left off, and The Seven Deadly Sins are no longer fugitives of the Kingdom of Liones. Peace has returned, but it’s brought to an abrupt end when an evil force summons the most deadly foes yet, The Ten Commandments. Now The Seven Deadly Sins and the remaining Holy Knights have to fight off the deadly villains.

Revival of the Commandments looks like even more of a good thing, and if you haven’t checked out the show already, it’s easy enough to catch up with the show on Netflix. The second season will be available to watch on Netflix in its entirety on Oct. 15.

Lost Song

Netflix has added a strong library of original anime over the last few years, with unique animations styles, settings, and stories. The service dabbled in musical-based anime with Your Lie in April, and now they will again with Lost Song.

Lost Song takes place in a fantasy world currently locked in war. A countryside girl named Rin travels to her capital to sing, while a quiet girl named Finis does her best alone to help the war front. Both girls have the ability to sing Spirit Songs, magical melodies that let them control the four elements and perform miracles.

Trailers have shown some gorgeous Ghibli-esque animation, although it seems like the show might take a bit of a darker tone. All 12 episodes of the anime will be available to stream on Netflix on Oct. 5.

Fairy Tail – The Final Season

Fairy Tail has been one of the most prolific anime out there over the last few years, rivaling even the popularity of shows like Naruto and One Piece. With the end of the manga, however, also comes the end of the anime. The final season is set to premiere in October 2018, and although we don’t know exact details yet, it will most likely touch on the final arc of the manga.

This definitely means we’re getting some interesting developments regarding series’ protagonist Natsu, and the mysterious villain Zeref. 102 episodes of Fairy Tail so far, and now this year will, hopefully, see a fitting end to it all. The final season premieres on Oct. 7, and both Funimation and Crunchyroll will be streaming the show, with times announced later. The show will also stream on Funimation both with subs and dubs this month.

Sword Art Online: Alicization

Sword Art Online is the anime that needs no introduction, as it’s almost single-handedly responsible for creating the Isekai genre. The show has enjoyed enduring popularity for years now with multiple seasons, spinoffs, video game adaptions, and more.

Alicization adapts the arc of the same name from the light novel series, and it picks up in 2026, once again following Kirito. He awakens in a brand new online fantasy world with little recollection of what happened before he logged in. There he meets a young boy named Eugeo, and the pair search for a way to log out of the fantasy world. Yet, Kirito starts remembering past events he spent with Eugeo, but a young girl named Alice takes the boy’s place. Kirito has to unravel these mysteries and find a way to return to the new world.

Sword Art Online: Alicization will be a four-cour series, running for a total of 50 episodes. In addition, the first episode will be a one-hour special. The series premieres on Oct. 7 in Japan. Crunchyroll has confirmed that they’ll be streaming the show, but they haven’t announced an exact date yet.
