Details On Kassandra and Alexios, Like Scars and Cuts
Open world games have been putting more and more detail into their main characters over the last couple of years. Whether it’s Geralt’s beard physics in The Witcher, or the way Henry’s clothes get dirty in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey puts more attention than ever into its main characters, and there are a ton of tiny details and imperfections to see on Alexios and Kassandra during cutscenes. Kassandra has a pair of scars on her left arm, as well as a scar on the bridge of her nose, and a cut above her lip. The life of a misthios is a dangerous one, and that’s represented on your character’s body.
Looking even closer you can see wrinkles, dimples, and marks on the character’s faces. You can even see the lines of their veins running through their arms and legs. At a glance, you can’t see much but if you really look closely at your characters there’s so much detail to take in. The wrinkles on their elbows and knees. Dirt that gets caked and ground into their skin. How you can see sweat glistening on their skin in hot environments.
Assassin’s Creed has never been a slouch in the graphical department, but the character models on display in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are really impressive. They do a great job of emulating actual people with imperfections.

Light Reflections on Water, and the Way They Shimmer
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has some seriously stunning water reflections, all built in as part of the impressive graphical engine the game uses. Depending on the camera angle you’re using, you can see the sun or moon reflected in any kind of water, as well as nearby scenery (like the screenshot we have above).
The cool thing is that the water actually reflects whatever is in your line of sight. It’s not just some generic reflection or texture put in, it’s actually whatever is in the world around you.
These details get even better, however, once you dive in and start swimming. The reflections will shimmer and sway as you’re moving through the water, and you can even see light beams poking through as you dive down. Of course, depending on the time of day the intensity and quantity of these beams will change. Black Flag set the standard for water effects and oceans in the series, but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey really takes it to the next level.

Blood Washes Off When You Get In Water
The life of a misthios is a violent one. In traditional Assassin’s Creed style, you’ll do plenty of killing and assassinating throughout Odyssey. This, of course, means that Alexios or Kassandra can be absolutely caked in blood at times. While blood effects are nothing new, an interesting tiny detail Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has, is the way blood washes off whenever you get in water.
Whenever your character enters the water you can actually see the blood wash off of them. This may seem small, but it’s a detail that wasn’t actually present in Origins. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey actually makes good use of its blood, as when you swipe at enemies with your weapon blood will spray off of them and splatter on the ground. Sometimes this blood stays there, and taking a look after a battle can help paint a grim picture of what you survived.

The Leonidas Spear Lights Up with Sparks During Abilities
The spear of the legendary Spartan Leonidas is a key item in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Outside of its story importance, the hero will use the spear for various abilities that you learn across the game. It’s also the key item that they use in assassinations, in place of the iconic hidden blade.
Much like Origins, the abilities in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are flashy and oftentimes over the top. While the game is still based in history, it holds nothing back at letting you feel like a super-powered Spartan.
Going along with these flashy abilities, there are some interesting visual details when you use the Leonidas Spear. Whenever you use the spear it’ll light up, and sparks will fly off of it, almost like it’s been pulled right out of the forge. Going into photo mode and zooming in on the spear highlights even more how much care went into this tiny detail.

Skin Cosmetics For Your Ship Crew Change Sea Shanties
This notches a couple neat little components of Assassin’s Creed Odysseys naval system. First off, you can get different skin cosmetics for your ship crew, changing the way they look. This gives you some degree of customization over your crew, whether you want your crew to look like Medjays from Origins or like a rough-and-tough group of Spartans.
There’s a really fun feature that loops into this, however, as the skins you choose for your crew can also alter the sea shanties you hear. Your crew will sing shanties automatically as you sail along, and the tune will be sung in either male or female voices, depending on the skins you have on your crew.
It won’t really affect what songs they sing, but having female or male skins on your crew will change the voice and timbre of the songs. It’s just one of the tiny details that help make Assassin’s Creed Odyssey feel a little more alive.

Sharks Are Attracted to Sea Battles and Sinking Ships
You know that old idea that sharks are attracted to the smell of blood? Well, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey completely embraces that idea with one of its tiny details. You’re bound to get into quite a few naval battles and skirmishes during Odyssey. This means there’s going to be plenty of death and debris falling into the ocean.
If you keep an eye out during and after these battles, you should notice a few sharks circling their way around the destruction. While in reality sharks aren’t necessarily overtly lured by blood, this is certainly true in the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The predators swoop in to clean up some battles, so just make sure you don’t jump in the water for some reason.
Outside of just sharks, there’s other sea life that’ll interact with you. Whales will shoot out streams of water as you pass by them, and your crew members will audibly gasp. There’s also a possibility that schools of dolphins will swim and jump alongside your ship as you’re at travel speed.
