NieR: Automata was originally announced back at Square Enix’s press conference during E3 2015. This is where we got our very first trailer of the game. It didn’t show off any gameplay, but it gave us a taste of the game’s lovely music, its artwork, and an introduction to 2B.
Automata got its next trailer during Paris Games Week 2015, where we finally got a glimpse of that action RPG goodness.
After Paris Games Week, things with NieR: Automata got a little quiet. It wasn’t until E3 2016 that we got another cool look at the game’s world and a really awesome-looking boss fight.
The game made an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2016 as well, where we were introduced to the cast of characters.
Soon after, the game got an official release date at the PlayStation Conference.
And here’s the western version of the release date announcement trailer.
The game also got a short trailer at PSX 2016.
It wasn’t too long before it was revealed that NieR: Automata would feature iconic crossover weapons from Final Fantasy XV and the Dragon Quest series.
With just a month to go before the game’s western release, Square Enix showed off yet another hype trailer titled “Glory To Mankind.” This trailer actually contains some minor spoilers, so if you’re hoping to go into the game fresh, it might be better to skip over this one.
The final trailer we got was titled “Arsenal of Elegant Destruction.” This trailer features 2B doing all kinds of cool things, like walking away slowly from exploding robots. The trailer also showed off the various weapon types we’d get to use in the game.
NieR: Automata is set to be released for the PS4 on March 7, and for PC on March 17.
