Halo Infinite

It’s been a while since the release of Halo 5: Guardians, so fans were eager to get a look at what’s next for the series at this year’s E3. Unfortunately, we barely got that. We know that the Chief’s back and that’s about it. The trailer didn’t actually have a platform attached to it, and we think there’s a chance that this game might be coming to the next generation of Xbox systems. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that they didn’t show a release date for Halo Infinite at E3 – it’s likely a long way off!

Control

Remedy Entertainment’s first multi-platform game since the early days of Max Payne looks like it could be a good’n. Like Remedy’s previous games, Control looks to be a third-person shooter that has a bit of a twist to it. The twist to this one is that the main protagonist can use powers to manipulate the world around her. There’s no release date for it yet, but it has a release window of 2019.

Doom Eternal

As the creative director of Doom Eternal, Hugo Martin, put it, this game is set to have “twice as many [badass demons]” as Doom (2016). That game has a lot of demons, so when you double that, that makes a hell of a lot of demons that will be in Doom Eternal. Doom (2016) was a surprisingly awesome game and if Doom Eternal can do to that game what Doom II: Hell on Earth did to the original Doom, we’ve got something special on our hands. Bethesda promised to show off more of the game at Quakecon 2018, so hopefully we learn something concrete about a release date then.

Gears of War 5

Gears of War 4 ended on quite the cliffhanger, so of course we’ve been anticipating the sequel ever since we finished Gears 4. E3 brought the goods with the cinematic announcement trailer for Gears of War 5. This next entry looks like it could have the most dramatic story yet. The Coalition has yet to show off anything in terms of multiplayer, but if the rest of the series is anything to go by, it’s going to be a pretty good time. While there is no firm release date for Gears of War 5, it is scheduled to be released in 2019.

Dying Light 2

The co-op zombie survival series Dying Light is back with Dying Light 2, and this sequel looks to be bigger and better than the original with its much larger map and inclusion of multiple endings, meaning that player interaction with the story will be much more important this time around. There’s no solid release date for the game, but you can expect it to drop sometime in 2019.

Starfield

E3 2018 wasn’t the first time we heard about Starfield – there have been murmurs about it floating about for a while now – but it did finally get officially announced by Bethesda at E3. Not that we actually know anything more about the game following its announcement teaser, besides the fact that the game has something to do with space. Still, a new IP by Bethesda is pretty exciting stuff. Don’t expect a release date to come for this one any time soon.

Nioh 2

The wealth of content that was offered in the first Nioh apparently wasn’t enough, as Nioh 2 was officially unveiled at Sony’s E3 2018 press conference. There wasn’t any gameplay shown, but boy does that cinematic trailer get us hyped to jump back in. The lack of a gameplay showing probably doesn’t mean that a release date announcement is coming in the near future. Nioh 2 doesn’t even have a release year yet. Perfection takes time, after all.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Bethesda has been doing a great job with the Wolfenstein franchise recently, and we can’t wait to get our hands on anything Wolfenstein-related. Wolfenstein: Youngblood changes up the formula by having us play as B.J. Blazkowicz’s twin daughters in a co-op mode. It likely won’t be as large as Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, but hopefully the Nazi-killing action is just as good. Once again, expect this one sometime in 2019.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Knowing that a new FromSoftware game in development is enough to drum up anticipation, but there’s still so much that we don’t know about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. So far, we know that the game will contain an interconnected world and have a more mobile combat system than the Souls games, but not much is known beyond that. A loose 2019 release window means that Sekiro will likely be in the oven for some time to come, giving FromSoftware and Activision plenty of time to feed us with lots of juicy details before the game comes out.

Devil May Cry 5

Who’s ready to kick demon ass? Nero and Dante sure aren’t quite ready yet, as Devil May Cry 5 doesn’t have a firm release date. However, Devil May Cry 5 has a release window of Spring 2019, which is much smaller than any other entry on this list. For those turned off by Dante’s controversial redesign in DmC: Devil May Cry, you have nothing to fear with Devil May Cry 5. Dante is back in black (and red, too, according to the box art). The producer, Hideaki Itsuno, says that he thinks this is the “best game he’s ever made.” Let’s hope he’s right.

The Elder Scrolls VI

Here’s another no gameplay, no release date, logo-only teaser trailer from Bethesda. All we can really do with this teaser is theorize about where the game might be set and hunger for the possibilities of the first single-player Elder Scrolls game on an 8th generation (or, potentially, later) game console that doesn’t start with “s” and end in “rim.” At least we can hope that Bethesda’s 2019 E3 press conference is full of release dates, eh?

Jump Force

I don’t think there’s a person alive who hasn’t wanted to live out their dream of beating the shit out of one of their favorite anime characters with another one of their favorite anime characters. For those of us who didn’t import a copy of Jump Super Stars or Jump Ultimate Stars for the DS, when Jump Force releases sometime in the vague window of 2019, our dreams will finally become a reality.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Does this one even count? The new Star Wars game could not have been announced in a more anti-climatic way. For those of you who blinked and missed it, Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment, confirmed the game’s existence during a casual conversation while he was sitting in the audience of EA’s E3 press conference. According to the official website, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will “[tell] an original Star Wars story around a surviving Padawan set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.” It is due for release in Holiday 2019.
