Marvel’s Avengers
As a huge Marvel fan myself, you can say that I was pretty pumped to see how Crystal Dynamics would adapt the Avengers into a AAA video game.
Taking one of the biggest entertainment properties and revealing it to the world is no easy feat but the trailer for Marvel’s Avengers left me wanting much more from the action-adventure title.
We got to see how Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, The Hulk, and Thor look for the first time and it’s sort of uncanny how similar yet different they look from the actual cast. We also got a look at the premise of the story and the reveal that Captain America will be dying towards the beginning of the narrative.
However, no gameplay was shown and people questioned the title, asking just how it’s going to be played. Apparently, the main campaign will be solely single-player with the player being able to control all of the Avengers.
Of course, there will be multiplayer modes to play with friends but not for the main campaign. This wasn’t clarified in the initial reveal which led to mixed messages, but I just hope that actual gameplay is revealed to the public soon.
Some gameplay was shown to E3 2019 attendees, though, and we’ll have some impressions on Twinfinite this week.
No More Heroes 3
Suda51 has finally lifted the curtains on No More Heroes 3, the next mainline title in the zany hack and slash series and while we didn’t get any gameplay, excitement for Travis Touchdown’s return has us very excited.
We did get a little indie iteration of No More Heroes in the form of Travis Strikes Again, which was just okay, but it didn’t give fans the mechanics and combat that we’re used to from the first two games.
We’re ready for action-packed boss fights, a lot of toilet humor, and more katana-focused combat as well as performing wrestling techniques on enemies –something that was much-missed in Travis Strikes Again.
Luckily, we did get a promise that the game will be coming sometime in 2020, but who’s to say if the game will eventually bleed into early 2021 or later? Hopefully, we can see a glimpse of gameplay in the next few months during a Nintendo Direct or something –I just want to see Travis in all of his glory again.
Deathloop
There’s no argument that Deathloop definitely had one of the more impressive reveal trailers at E3 2019. Arkane Lyon’s next game comes from the team that brought you Prey and Dishonored and Deathloop looks to be a brand-new type of first-person shooter from the development team.
The trailer quickly introduces us to the two main characters that we’ll be controlling in the game, Juliana and Colt. The two of them are remarkably trained assassins that are on the lawless island of Blackreef, stuck in an eternal struggle to fight for what’s right.
The trailer shows the two of them fighting and even killing each other over and over again, only to find themselves waking up after every death to continue this cycle of death, a la Groundhog Day. Juliana wants the cycle to stay the way it is and Colt hopes to break it and free himself from the Deathloop.
According to Bethesda, “players will be exploring meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like.”
We don’t know much else about this first-person shooter but if it ends up being close to as impressive as the reveal trailer was, then we should be in for a wild ride.
Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite’s trailer at Microsoft’s E3 press conference gave us an extended look at Master Chief in his classic green suit of armor, causing fans to cheer with excitement for this soft reboot/sequel of the popularized first-person shooter franchise.
While we won’t be getting Halo Infinite until the launch of the next Xbox sometime in 2020, the trailer gave us hope that 343 Industries is capable of giving us a fresh take on the long-running series.
No gameplay was shown and it was slightly disappointing, especially since we’ve known about this game for quite some time now, but Halo Infinite was shaping up to be something really special and if the developer follows through, then this might be a reason for Xbox naysayers to jump on board.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring is the next fantasy action-RPG that comes from the minds of George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones) and Hidetaka Miyazaki (Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice).
We literally didn’t get much from the initial reveal during Microsoft’s E3 press conference, but we did learn several things about the next Souls-Borne title, thanks to an interview with Miyazaki.
If you were worried that FromSoftware would be continuing the gameplay mechanics that were introduced in Sekiro, don’t worry because Elden Ring is apparently going to have a heavier focus on the RPG elements that are found in Dark Souls and there will be lots of variety when it comes to the gameplay as well.
We don’t have a release date or actual gameplay for Elden Ring just yet, but the game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, so you don’t have to worry about any sort of exclusivity deals.
Breath of the Wild Sequel
As usual, at the end of Nintendo’s E3 Direct, the company revealed that they had “one more thing” to show off before the live stream would come to a close.
It turns out that one of the best Switch games, arguably the best Zelda game, Breath of the Wild, would be getting a sequel.
Fans were greeted with a short teaser trailer that was eerie, dark, and gave us a good look at Zelda’s new haircut and an evil entity of some sort that seems to have woken up. We also get to see a glimpse of Hyrule Castle lifting up off of the ground.
We have no idea what’s in store for this upcoming sequel, but we would love to see a playable Zelda, more “actual” dungeons, and a darker story.
It would have been crazy if we got to see some gameplay during the Nintendo E3 Direct, but we’re fine with just getting this tease of what’s to come.
