Every year, massively improbable rumors arise out of the excitement that is the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 as it is better known. E3 is a massive series of press conferences that allow publishers and developers alike to show off what they’ve been cooking up over the past year. While some rumors, as evident by Sony’s press conference of dreams last year, should never be fully discounted, here are 5 rumors we hope die at E3 2016, for better or for worse.

5) The Return of Sony’s Mascot Platformers

Every year at E3, it seems, there are a significant amount of rumors regarding PlayStation’s classic mascot platformers. Parappa the Rappa is dropping a sick new mixtape! Crash is back! Spyro won’t just be a Skylanders toy! Every year, there are rumors and insistence that our beloved mascot platformers aren’t dead, but rather just waiting to be revealed. At this point, it would be just beneficial for all of us to hear these platformers are done for, so we can move on to their successors.

4) Jak and Daxter

Jak and Daxer, PS4, Sony, Naughty Dog

This one deserves a special mention due to the recent release of the incredible Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Developed by Naughty Dog, the studio gradually matured from collecting wampu fruit with Crash on the PSOne, to teaming up with Jak and Daxter on the PS2, and finally to venturing the world many times over in the hunt for buried treasure with the Uncharted series on the PS3 and PS4. We’d be remiss to not mention The Last of Us as well. Sure, Naughty Dog has revealed concept art in the past for Jak and Daxter 4, but it was more of a trip down memory lane than an Easter Egg for things to come. It seems like a waste of talent for a great studio such as Naughty Dog to go back to Jak and Daxter, and we’d love to be reaffirmed in that belief.

3) Battletoads

Batltetoads

Phil Spencer and his fellow Microsoft executives probably love their Battletoads t-shirts. It’s not a crime to wear a stylish t-shirt up on stage at a big press conference. Yet we the fans have blown the emotions of nostalgia out of the water, and big time. We’ve heard a lot of rumors over the past few E3 press conferences that Microsoft will debut a new Battletoads game, exclusive to the Xbox One and PC. For the love of all that is holy in gaming, please just kill the rumor and announce the game as a reality or a dream.

2) The Agent

Remember The Agent? Sony debuted a Rockstar title exclusive to the PS3 way back in 2006. Ever since the exciting reveal, we’ve been treated to trademark renewals, executives admitting they don’t know if the game is still around or not, and as recently as this year an artist released some concept art for the game. There were even some rumors during a few of the streams as recently as this year at PSX that Rockstar brought The Agent. It’s been a persistent s.o.b., and we’d be relieved to know The Agent has been cancelled, and even more excited to see what will take its place.

1) Half-Life 3

Half-life, sequels, games, must play

It’s getting to the point now that Valve has memes which complain of the company’s lack to complete a trilogy. We’ve played two entries in the Team Fortress series, both Portals, and have been Left 4 Dead twice. Now we just want to know. Sony gave many the press conference of dreams last year, with the announcement of a Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last Guardian, and a Shenmue III Kickstarter. Will Valve ever pull the trigger and do the same?

These are but five of the dozens of E3 rumors that have seemingly popped up year after year. What do you think? Are you excited about any of these (imaginary) games? Let us know in the comments below.
