It's almost here.

A New Area with New Enemies – The Dreadnaught and The Taken

Destiny The Taken King Twitch Reveal

We can’t talk about Destiny: The Taken King without mentioning the all new area where a large portion of the new content will take place: the Dreadnaught. For a while now, players have been talking about how the areas we already have access to have been starting to feel stale.

While it was cool to get access to the Vestian Outpost in the Reef and the Prison of Elders in the House of Wolves DLC, we didn’t get another planet or patrol area on our map director. That means that, despite new levels and missions, they all had a feeling of familiarity. The Dreadnaught will bear recognizable Hive markings, but in terms of content and mapping, it’s all new.

Although the Taken are not an entirely new enemy, as they are composed of the races and species we have already seen within the game, they should function with new battle mechanics and attacks that will be a welcome change-up to the fighting that we are used to now. Plus, Deej said several times during a Destiny Twitch live stream that patrol on the Dreadnaught will no longer be easy mode. In Destiny: The Taken King, we can look forward to a more challenging and thus more rewarding experience when fighting the taken in the new space of the Dreadnaught.

New Public Events – The Court of Oryx

Destiny: The Taken King Court of Oryx

During the September 2 Destiny Twitch live stream from Bungie, the Court of Oryx on the Dreadnaught was finally revealed to fans. If you didn’t catch the Destiny Twitch live stream from Bungie, you might be interested in knowing that the Court of Oryx is a new public event system for Destiny.

No longer do you have to wait around staring up at the sky, hoping that it will go dark and invite you to a public event. No more downloading public event apps on your phone and looking at websites on the internet to complete these missions.

After the release of Destiny: The Taken King, the Court of Oryx will allow players to use artifacts to activate these public events for themselves, which also allows players to plan ahead by bringing a fireteam. These new Court of Oryx public events are exciting because they increase in difficulty as they are completed, as the rewards that drop increase in value. At the highest difficulty, we expect to see raid level equipment dropping from the Court of Oryx, which is definitely something to look forward to.

New Raid – King’s Fall

Probably the most talked about feature of Destiny: The Taken King is the new King’s Fall raid that is coming to the game. Players were majorly disappointed when they found out that there wasn’t going to be any raid included in the House of Wolves DLC.

Bungie didn’t make any promises, but since players received a raid in the first part of their season pass with The Dark Below DLC, many assumed that the House of Wolves DLC would contain a raid, as well.

But now, just three days after the release of the Destiny: The Taken King expansion, players will be able to experience what they have long been demanding. Not only is there a new King’s Fall raid, but Bungie has been talking about how it will be the biggest and most complex raid that we have seen to date.

A lot of expectations are riding on this raid, but Bungie knows this and from the way that they’ve been talking about the King’s Fall raid, they appear confident that they are going to deliver exactly what fans have been hoping for since House of Wolves.

Destiny: The Taken King New Exotics

The Taken King

With every Destiny expansion so far, we’ve seen the release of new exotic weapon and armor pieces. If you’re a Destiny player, you know that exotics are the most coveted items in the game. They make your character look awesome while at the same time give you special perks and buffs that are typically superior to those of legendary items.

While we still can’t get our hands on these exotics within the game just yet, we can feel free to take a look at them. A couple of weeks ago, Destiny teased us with a few exotics that Xur, agent of the nine, was kind enough to reveal on instagram. But now, with such a short time before Destiny: The Taken King releases, Bungie has made the new exotic gear available for players to view in the armory on their website.

If you’ve been keeping up with our posts, you may have noticed that we also compiled the Destiny: The Taken King exotics into neat lists for your convenience in our posts, All of the New Destiny: The Taken King Exotic Weapons and All of the New Destiny: The Taken King Exotic Armor. Feel free to look them over so you can start praying to Xur and RNGesus for the ones you’ll want most.

New Subclasses – Stormcaller, Nightstalker, and Sunbreaker

Destiny The Taken King Court of Oryx Titan

Even at the release of vanilla Destiny, people were already wondering if there would be subclasses in addition to the two per character with which the game came equipped. It was obvious that there were three elements in the game, but that each character only had access to two of those elements within their two subclasses. Players knew that, eventually, there would probably be a third subclass for each guardian, granting the character access to the third elemental power.

They were right. In Destiny: The Taken King, we look forward to the three new subclasses, the Stormcaller, the Nightstalker, and the Sunbreaker. In the Destiny Twitch live stream from Bungie, we saw some great gameplay footage of the Stormcaller and the Sunbreaker. We saw the Nightstalker in use, as well, but there was significantly less focus on the new Hunter subclass than that of the Titan and Warlock.

Bungie is already teasing us with the subclass quest lines that are now available to unlock valuable class items. We’re on the verge of what we’ve been waiting on for a long time. But come September 15, just next Tuesday, players will finally be able to experience the new content.
