5 Joy-Con Color Patterns That Would Print Nintendo Money

5 joycon colors we want to see next

With the recent announcement that Nintendo will be releasing two new pairs of Joy-Con colors, players are still finding themselves disappointed in the lack of Joy-Con options that Nintendo has offered thus far.

Nintendo has always been known for its eccentric color schemes of consoles and controllers in the past. Whether you were sporting an Atomic Purple Gameboy Color or an Orange Spice Gamecube, Nintendo had options for nearly everyone.

Fast forward to the current generation and Nintendo has been stagnant with its rollout of alternative color options for the Joy-Cons, leaving players to mod their controllers themselves with custom shells to get the exact look they desire.

But as Nintendo continues to offer a less than ideal amount of color variations, Switch owners need a more enticing proposal to get them to fork over the $79.99 needed for a new pair. We ask ourselves, what colors should Nintendo release next to get people on board?

Here are 5 Joy-Con colors that we would like to see next:

Jungle Green

Although Nintendo has released a similar shade Joy-Con with its Neon Green version, it doesn’t quite hit the same mark that the transparent Jungle Green did for the Nintendo 64 back in 1996.

The other complication with Nintendo’s recent Neon Green Joy-Con is that they have only released one for the right side, leaving players that want a matching set to turn to case mods or skins. Although Nintendo’s combination of Neon Green and Pink is a perfect fit for Splatoon, fans of the true Jungle Green are left playing the waiting game.

Launching as one of the Funtastic color schemes for the N64, Jungle Green was one of the console’s staple SKU’s alongside the popular Smoke Black and Fire Orange. Jungle Green was a standout amongst its peers and remains a nostalgia piece of anyone that owned one in the past.

Nintendo is no stranger to the color green either, having both consoles and controllers in different variations throughout the years. Jungle Green remains an iconic variation that would be a welcomed addition to the Joy-Con family.

With a healthy amount of fans wanting the translucent green to make a comeback, Nintendo would be wise to release this version sooner rather than later.

Zelda Gold

Regardless of your opinions on whether or not a gold controller is “tacky,” there is a long history of Nintendo offering special edition hardware based on the Zelda franchise that is plated in gold.

Starting as a tradition with the original Legend of Zelda cartridge on the NES, Zelda Gold has become a staple in the long line of colors that Nintendo has offered. Whether it was the Special Edition Majoras Mask 3DS, the rare Golden Nunchuck available only to select Club Nintendo members, or the limited edition Gold N64, Nintendo has a clear fascination with the color.

Given that fascination, it’s bizarre that Nintendo has held out this long without giving players a Golden pair of Joy-Cons to bling out their Switch.

However, fans of the color may be in luck.

Considering that Nintendo has been known to release these limited edition colors right around the same time as a new Zelda title, we can be left to speculate whether the Breath of The Wild sequel will be the time when players will get their hands on the gold.

SNES Variation

One of the most popular Joy-Con mods out there currently is the Super Nintendo variation. Whether it is the American or Japanese versions, these variations are a highly requested color option that Nintendo would be wise to include down the line.

The Switch has been a console that has been a hit for gamers of all ages. Including Joy-Con variations that take gamers back to their childhood will without a doubt be a success for Nintendo.

Nintendo has never been a company to shy away from nostalgia, offering these color schemes would strike a chord with many of their older audience and may help ease the hesitancy of paying 79.99 for a set of new controllers.

Although the image above is a custom mod, it’s a beautiful representation of what Nintendo can offer its fans.  As more SNES games get added to the system down the line, Nintendo would be wise to include this as an option for players that want to experience that nostalgia one more time.

High Tech Transparent/Clear

Known as Neotones Ice in Japan, this see-through variation hit shelves along with the original Gameboy as a regional-exclusive color when it launched in 1989.

One of the most popular variations in the line-up, it eventually made its way to North America with the Play It Loud campaign that Nintendo started in 1995. This was a marketing effort that put the Gameboy out in six other new colors including blue, yellow, green, white, black, and red.

High Tech Transparent became a fan favorite quickly, allowing players to see the inner-workings of their console for the first time.

This admiration with transparent consoles and controllers continued as the trend expanded into the Gameboy Color and Nintendo 64 years later.

Unfortunately, in recent years, Nintendo has abandoned the transparent color scheme for the Switch and have opted for more neon and matte variations. What was once a fan favorite is all but forgotten by the console manufacturer.

Bringing back the see-through shell would interest many players that owned similar styled Nintendo consoles in the past and encourage players to buy a new set.

Atomic Purple

This list of Joy-Con colors that we want to see next would not be complete without Atomic Purple. Popularized by the Gameboy Color, Atomic Purple remains the most highly requested variation from players.

Out of all of the case mods that are available for players to attempt themselves, none are more prevalent than the see-through purple shell that was made notorious by the portable console in 1998.

Similar to the clear variation, Nintendo took that same popular idea and added a shade of color to the shell, starting an entire line of transparent colors for generations to come. Whether it was the Jungle Green Nintendo 64 or the more recent Ice Blue Nintendo 2DS, the color scheme remains popular and has lasted the test of time.

Atomic Purple is a variation that is just as nostalgic as it is beautiful. It is a perfect fit for anyone who is looking to have a Switch that stands out among the rest.

We all hope that Nintendo is listening and learning from the past as they continue to implement more color options for the Joy-Con controllers. If they are able to release these variations at a quicker rate, players will disregard the steep asking price in order to customize their Switch the way they prefer.
