Detroit Become Human

Detroit Become Human wowed players with its difficult choices, and its cast of android characters that drove the story forward with the help of a robust player choice mechanic.

The game seems like a prime candidate for DLC. While developer Quantic Dream is known for being a “one and done” type of developer, founder of Quantic Dream, and director and writer of Detroit Become Human, David Cage, has expressed interest in telling more stories in the world of Detroit Become Human.

There hasn’t been much to confirm the possibility of future content for the game besides a brief press statement discussing Cage’s desire to continue development on the series, either through DLC or sequels.

The interest expressed by Cage in potential DLC opportunities has us optimistic for a bright future in Quantic Dream’s latest IP, and it could also be a great way for the developer to further improve upon the already rather impressive universe they’ve built.

Super Mario Party

For many longtime Mario Party fans, the newest edition to the long-running series, Super Mario Party, brought some welcome changes to the formula, as well as bringing back fan favorite gameplay mechanics that had been altered in the more recent entries of Mario Party such as Mario Party 9 and 10.

While fans were appreciative of the return to glory for the series, the lack of board variation and size has been a gripe against the game.

To make this the definitive Mario Party experience, remastering classic Mario Party boards or even adding entirely new ones would go a long way to making Super Mario Party the best it can be.

Super Mario Party is a step in the right direction, but DLC for the title could amount to a huge leap for the franchise as a whole. It would be welcome by many fans who just might be willing to pay for the magic that additional boards would bring to the game.

Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler was a response to growing desires for classic JRPG experiences after the surprising successes of titles like Bravely Default. Octopath was unapologetically forgoing the use of DLC content in any way.

Following a similar ideology as the developers and publisher of Vampyr, Square Enix referred to Octopath Traveler as a “finished product” to support its lack of downloadable content.

Octopath Traveler was one of this years best received RPGs and Nintendo Switch games overall, and not continuing it in some way would be a bit of a let down. Perhaps more story content for the original cast of memorable characters, or even adding some new characters into the fold could further enhance this nostalgic and memorable 2018 title.

The game sold incredibly well on Nintendo Switch and it would be an easy source of revenue for Square Enix, while also giving fans who really wanted more Octopath Traveler the chance to jump back into the game with some new content in tow.

God of War

God of War DLC is currently not being discussed according to reports from around the time of the game’s launch. Seeing as God of War is one of 2018’s most successful and talked about video game releases, this comes as a bit of a surprise.

Not only was there plenty of story and additional lore to explore, but there’s clearly money to be made, too!

If Santa Monica is intent on saving pursuing the next chapter of Kratos’ story directly, then maybe they would consider going the same direction as the Mass Effect series with their DLC approach, whereby the expansion’s content actually had direct implications in the story of the third game?

There’s certainly a lot of wiggle room for DLC to explore, that’s for sure.

Vampyr

Dontnot’s supernatural action-roleplaying game Vampyr, was a surprising and successful new IP in an industry that can sometimes feel reliant on sequels and recycled classics. Taking inspiration from both AAA polish and indie originality, Vampyr was able to stand out from the crowd this year.

Cédric Lagarrigue, the president of the publishing company, Focus Home Interactive, which published Vampyr, has quelled fans expectations in regard to future Vampyr content however, at least as it relates to downloadable content.

“This is a purely solo experience; we did not plan DLC. We would prefer, if the reception of the game justifies it, to think about a sequel,” Lagarrigue said. “We and Dontnod already have some ideas, as there are so many incredible things to offer in such a universe.”

While putting out a complete game at launch is certainly commendable in today’s climate, and news of a potential sequel is welcome, the story and setting are rife with opportunity for some DLC content.

It’d be great to see Dr. Reid avert disaster in another part of Victorian London’s dank streets, or even visit some of Europe’s other cities as he acclimatizes to being a creature of the night.
