There’s a lot of good stuff to find whether you want new or old games. Some even count as both, so ready your wallet, we’re here to help you figure out the best stuff.

The Remasters & Retro sale ends July 2, so while you have time, it’s not a bad idea to buy today and get playing.

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 Remasters & Retro Sale

Original Price: $39.99

Sale Price: $19.99

Resident Evil is a long-standing franchise. The first game infected the PlayStation in 1996 and since then has been ported (and remastered) generation to generation. Only with last year’s Resident Evil 2 did we start getting remakes of the old tank control classics that actually had the dazzle of a modern game.

Resident Evil 2 is an easy recommendation, and not only because it was Twinfinite’s 2019 Game of the Year. Resident Evil 2 is one hell of a remake.

It retains the horror and the exploration that the original offered, while turning everything up to 11, making Raccoon City and the Police Station come alive.

The Resident Evil series isn’t going to slow down anytime soon, either. With Resident Evil 3 remake released and Resident Evil Village recently unveiled, now’s a good time to get out ahead of the (most likely in development) Resident Evil 4 remake.

If you still haven’t picked up/played this great example of what modern Resident Evil can be, head over to the Remasters & Retro sale and snag it.

Doom 3

Doom 3 Remasters & Retro Sale

Original Price: $9.99

Sale Price: $4.99

Yes, it might seem strange that this is one of the picks considering how different it is from every other Doom game in existence. Between the lack of speedy mobility and heavy metal soundtrack, this might come off as a weird choice, but it’s a solid survival horror.

It’s unavoidable to admit that Doom 3 doesn’t have much in common with any other game in the franchise, but that’s where it shines. Doom 3 is slow, methodical, and frightening. It’s not sprinting through hallway after hallway, mowing enemies down, it is jump scares and poorly lit nightmare bathrooms.

Doom 3 does horror so incredibly well and nails the right atmosphere of a spooky, empty Mars facility taken over by demons that don’t come at you by the busload, but wish to terrify you at the right time.

If you’ve played 2016’s Doom or Doom Eternal, it’s worth taking a trip to when Doom took a shot at being scary, so grab it today in the Remasters & Retro sale.

Max Payne

Max Payne Remasters & Retro Sale

Original Price: $14.99

Sale Price: $8.99

Max Payne is many things all at once. It’s a story of tragedy, a graphic novel, a fast-paced third-person shooter. Max Payne (though certainly behind The Matrix) was the first video game to have “Bullet Time,” where you get to lay waste to enemies by shooting them repeatedly in slow-motion.

The graphic novel that makes up the story’s chapter transitions are absolutely superb. James McCaffrey has the kind of voice you just want to melt into and his performance adds to the already perfect noir feel of Max Payne. You just need to overlook the character model’s face, the existence of which was later joked about during an in-game video in Alan Wake.

If you haven’t taken a dive into this excellent piece of video game action and storytelling, take a quick trip to the Remasters & Retro sale and check it out.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Original Price: $39.99

Sale Price: $19.99

Spyro is one of the best mascots PlayStation has ever produced. This trilogy of games lets you experience the Spyro games once more, but with proper, modern graphics. Enjoy an updated collect-a-thon with a better controlling Spyro for all your enemy barbecue needs.

Spyro is no longer jagged and polygonal, but closer to his recent Skylanders forms. This Spyro is much more cute, and better animated through all of his trips through the various worlds.

This trilogy blends the games together, so there isn’t a big graphics gap between them and it feels befitting of an epic story about dragons. You can seamlessly go from game to game and instinctively control Spyro without any issues.

Spyro is one of the most classic trilogies PlayStation has to offer, and is absolutely worth playing in its Reignited form, especially for the nostalgia. Three games (each with its own platinum trophy) are sure to keep you busy so pick the trilogy up from the Remasters & Retro sale today.

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition

Original Price: $29.99

Sale Price: $11.99

Borderlands is the birth of the first-person looter shooter. If you have ever played Destiny and thought, “I like the loot, but I wish there was a whole lot more,” then Borderlands is the game for you.

Set on the barren and brown planet Pandora (yes, just like Avatar) where survival is never guaranteed and everything from flora to fauna wants you dead at all times. You take on the role of a Vault Hunter, a treasure seeker that arrives on the planet to seek out the riches associated with such vaults.

This updated form of the first Borderlands adds, among other things, an updated UI and a mini-map. The mini-map is the most welcomed change that if you have played Borderlands before will actually wonder how you survived without it.

If you want to play with a billion guns, now’s a perfect time (and price) to score Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition from the Remasters & Retro sale.
