4 Things to Expect in the Fortnite x Avengers Crossover Event

The Return of the Thanos Infinity Gauntlet LTM Event

Recommended Videos

When Avengers: Infinity War hit cinemas last year, Fortnite celebrated its release with a crossover event. The Infinity Gauntlet LTM saw the powerful weapon drop somewhere around the map, with players transforming into the purple titan if they managed to reach it first.

Equipped with punch, laser, and jump attacks, and a massive pool of health and shield, whoever obtained Thanos then became the main target for almost everyone else in the game. It switched up the traditional formula, without messing with it so much that it no longer felt like Fortnite. In essence, it was the perfect foray into crossover events to show it was possible.

Well, it turns out that players are likely going to get another round of Thanos-focused action if new kill feed messages uncovered in recent data mines of patches are to be believed. In the second image courtesy of SkinTrackerCom, “yielded to the POWER of Thanos” can be seen as one of the new kill feed messages added into the game.

Whether or not this new Fortnite x Avengers crossover event will alter things slightly in order to keep up with the goings-on of Endgame or not remains to be seen, but we’d be very surprised given all of the teases (more on those soon) if Epic didn’t bring back this fan-favorite mode as the headline act.

Avengers Skins

Just a couple of days ago, the official Fortnite Twitter account began teasing the Fortnite x Avengers Endgame crossover event. Just like their teases for the new season, the accompanying images were fairly vague, but this first one you can see above showed off Captain America’s shield.

Considering the huge popularity of Marvel’s cinematic universe, and the opportunity to make a boat-load of money in the process (or just bump up player numbers during the event’s duration), it seems like a no-brainer that we’ll get some sort of Avengers-related skins. Or at the very least, cosmetic items that’ll have fans feeling like their favorite superhero.

Though there has yet to be any official image or confirmation that Avengers skins will make an appearance in the Fortnite x Avengers Endgame crossover event, it’ll certainly feel like a missed opportunity if they don’t show up.

Besides, Epic has managed to pull off some incredible feats with Fortnite thus far with its live events including Marshmello and a live map change, too. If any developer is capable of getting licensed characters into its zany, battle royale world, it’s Epic.

Back Bling and Harvesters

Just a day after the previous tease, the Fortnite Twitter account then dropped another, this time with a clear focus on Thor’s axe, Stormbreaker.

Regardless of whether or not the event brings us our favorite superheroes in full skin form, it almost seems a cert now that we’ll be getting some form of Avengers-themed back bling, harvesters, and other cosmetic items to celebrate Endgame’s release.

Exactly which ones we’ll get outside of Cap’s shield and Thor’s axe remains to be seen. We’re personally hoping for some kind of baby Groot pet. Imagine how adorable that’d be as he gives you a thumbs up after each elimination or dances away alongside your emote. Are we getting ahead of ourselves a little bit here? Perhaps. But you can’t deny it’d be awesome.

LTM Challenges

If there’s been a trend in Fortnite recently, it’s been Epic’s tendency to drop a new Limited Time Mode with its own unique set of challenges for players to grind through. Completing one, or a number of them tends to reward players with some sweet cosmetics to show their commitment to the mode, and also gives players a reason to actually check out these experimental takes on Fortnite’s traditional formula.

While it appears that the Fortnite x Avengers crossover event will give players a chance to nab some neat back bling or harvesters at the very least, we don’t know one way or another how we’ll be able to get these cosmetics.

Considering this recent love for LTM challenges in Fortnite, and Epic’s recent generosity and giving players a free Season 8 Battle Pass for completing the Overtime challenges at the end of last season, we’d be very surprised if the return of the Infinity Gauntlet LTM — or whatever variation it takes — doesn’t come with its own set of challenges.

We can even see them now “Get the Infinity Gauntlet three times in different matches.” “Deal 500 Damage to Other Players as Thanos.” “Deal 200 Damage to Thanos in a Single Match.” It’s the usual suspects, but just with that Avengers/ LTM spin on them.
