Destiny 2 Is Free-to-Play

Since Bungie’s split with Activision, they’ve announced that Destiny 2 would go free-to-play, which means that there’s literally no better time than now for new players to jump into the adventure.

Of course, with how long Destiny 2’s been out at this point, there’s a lot of content to catch up on, especially for players who want to see the story from its beginning. Bungie’s thought of that, though, and have implemented a new tailor-made campaign for new players titled New Light.

Essentially, New Light will catch you up with the Destiny 2 story by letting you explore old areas and reliving the major story beats and highlights that brought our Guardians to where they are now.

It’s definitely a good way to experience the story without feeling too overwhelmed. You can still explore most of the areas without needing to buy the expansions, and then just purchase them later on if you want to see everything Destiny 2 has to offer.

The Shadowkeep Campaign Is Quite Good

If you’re a returning player who fell off after the Forsaken hype died out, you’ll be glad to know that Shadowkeep‘s a pretty decent expansion as well. It’s not as lengthy as Forsaken, but it’s certainly leagues ahead of Curse of Osiris and Warmind.

The tone of Shadowkeep’s story is pretty dark, and a little heavier and more sinister than what you might be used to from your typical Destiny affair, where you’d constantly have characters cracking jokes and bantering back and forth.

The return of Eris Morn is epic, and considering we haven’t seen her around since the Red War began, it becomes pretty obvious that the Destiny cast had been seriously missing something without her hanging about.

The return to the Moon is very much welcome as well, and it’s a treat to be able to explore original areas from the first Destiny with a slight twist.

The Grind Is Real

Destiny 2’s certainly come a very long way since the original launch, and it’s in a great place right now. Bungie has taken steps to make sure that the game caters to the ‘hardcore’ crowd first and foremost, though that’s not to say that the more casual players can’t enjoy the game either.

For starters, in case you haven’t heard, random weapon rolls are back, and the game very much encourages the grind in Shadowkeep. For instance, you’ll be picking up various quest steps throughout the campaign that allow you to obtain a new piece of equipment.

After completing a quest step, you can turn it in for your gear, but you’ll have the option to repeat the step if you happen to hate the rolls you got.

It might sound tedious, and you certainly aren’t obliged to grind till you get a good roll, but this system is in place specifically for the players who want to put in the effort to get the perks that perfectly suit them.

That’s just one small example. Daily and weekly Milestones are still in place to help you increase your Power level, and make no mistake; Destiny 2 is very much designed to be a ‘daily game’ that you can play regularly to keep getting stronger.

Consistent Content Rollout

The major expansions aren’t the only things to look forward to when it comes to Destiny 2 anymore. Bungie seems to have learned that players don’t really like it when the content well dries up and there isn’t more to do in a video game, so they decided to keep adding stuff.

In between story expansions, Destiny 2 now gets different themed Seasons that will raise the Power level cap a little, and give players new rewards to grind for.

Various activities like Crucible or Gambit could have new weapons that you can get as rewards by maxing out your rank for that season, or there could be new timed Exotic quests to pursue.

It won’t do much for players who are looking for more story content, but at least you’ll know there’s always stuff to do whenever you log into Destiny 2.
