Start New Game Plus
With such a rich story on offer in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, there’s no better way to re-experience it than by playing through the game again on new game plus. It’s a pretty well-done mode as well, allowing players to have just enough power and freedom of customization, while also making sure you don’t get too overpowered.
The new game plus mode comes with some pretty nice goodies as well. You won’t be able to carry over character levels, but you do get a set amount of renown points that you can spend to immediately unlock professor levels, skill levels, or mastered skills from specific classes. You can’t unlock everything, though, so you’ll have to pick and choose the aspects you want to focus on for your second run.
Focusing on specific skills can also make it easier for you to recruit students from other Houses.
Not only that, you even get the option to choose the Monastery uniforms and war outfits for individual characters. This is actually a pretty nice addition as some characters do look better after the time skip, and now you’ll get to deck them out in their new outfits a little earlier.
Play on Hard Classic Mode
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a good challenge, replay the game on Hard Classic mode. Let’s be real, Fire Emblem: Three Houses isn’t all that tough on the Normal setting, and the difficulty doesn’t really ramp up until you get to the last handful of battles, or if you dive deep into the optional Paralogues.
Classic mode brings back the permadeath elements of the series, which means that you’ll need to be extremely smart about how you position your units on the battlefield, or be careful with how you’re using that Divine Pulse mechanic. Hard mode just makes units tougher, and limits your characters’ growth as they level up.
Hard mode is quite a nice step up from Normal mode, and it truly makes every move feel crucial. If you’re feeling a little apprehensive about starting a fresh file on Hard difficulty, though, you can always do it in new game plus instead.
As mentioned previously, new game plus gives you a nice starting advantage in terms of deciding which skills you want to invest in, so you can plan out your character development early on.
Play a Different House
This is a pretty obvious one, but if you want to get the most out of your Fire Emblem: Three Houses experience, you should most definitely replay the game and pick a different House than the one you went with during your first run.
More specifically, if you started the game with either the Golden Deer or Blue Lions, consider playing the Black Eagles next. You already know how the general plot unfolds, and with Edelgard being caught right in the middle of the whole conflict, watching things unfold from the Black Eagles’ perspective is pretty interesting.
If you did choose the Black Eagles during your first run, you might want to consider doing your second run with them yet again. Without going into spoilers, the Black Eagles path diverges towards the end of the first act, and things play out pretty differently depending on your actions.
There’s so much replay value in Fire Emblem: Three Houses just in terms of the characters you get to spend time with, and which House you choose to side with.
