The first game with a fishing minigame we’d like to highlight is Stardew Valley. There are plenty of relaxing and peaceful activities to do within this game and fishing is one of them.

With gorgeous, pixelated scenery and the occasional fishing buddy, you’ve got yourself a perfect time hunting for fish. There are also many different kinds you can find depending on the time of day and season. So, when you’re waiting around for your crops to grow, this is a great way to pass the time.

Some fish are feistier than others so sometimes you need to go crazy on the reeling to catch them.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the series in general can be considered the king of casual activities. The series is known for being peaceful and relaxing and it’s essentially the embodiment of summer. Add in the fact that the newest game takes place on an island and it’s pure perfection.

Honestly, fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the best things to do. There’s always the silhouette of a fish somewhere in the water and it’s just waiting to be caught. And there are plenty of fish that only show up for a limited amount of time.

Occasionally you’ll pass by a giant fish shadow and you just have to stop what you’re doing to catch it.

With cute neighbors and beautiful trees, the world around you is serene and calm. Fishing in this game can just melt your stress away.

Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XIV may give you the option to have your entire life center around fishing if you wanted it to but Final Fantasy XV truly perfects the art and zen of this activity.

Whether you liked the game or not, Final Fantasy XV manages to craft a rather casual and realistic depiction of a group of friends interacting and going on a road trip. The snarky commentary, the backseat fishing, and so much more adds to Noctis’ attempts at catching fish.

It’s easy to feel Noctis and the other characters get excited about reeling in a specific fish, yelling about the sheer size of another, or becoming disappointed that one got away.

Add in the gorgeous scenery we’re treated to in the wonderful world of Eos and fishing in this game easily becomes a fun bonding experience with Noctis and his pals.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

In Fire Emblem: Three Houses you get to treat yourself to a bit of relaxation on the weekend. It doesn’t matter which house you’re in. Everyone needs a break every now and again and sometimes that means fishing.

Teachers are also some of the people who desperately need breaks more often than other people so taking a brief fishing sabbatical is sorely needed for Byleth.

Sometimes you just want to forget about daily life, work, and all your stress. Fishing is the perfect activity to take your mind off things.

Terraria

There’s a lot to do in Terraria. Among activities like fighting a giant eyeball, destroying an even bigger plant boss, and running away from an even larger wall of flesh, you can take a moment to fish.

Terraria tempers out the pure madness deep within the game with some pretty peaceful activities. And, when a blood moon or an alien invasion isn’t happening, the world of Terraria is actually pretty pleasant.

You can choose to spend a nice day fishing at one of the beaches at the end of the map without much coming to kill you. Summer is full of adventure and having fun and Terraria is the same way.

There’s just the tiny chance that you may or may not be attacked by something straight out of a nightmare from time to time.

Nier: Automata

So, the fishing minigame in this game is a little bit different than normal but this is Nier: Automata we’re talking about. Nothing’s normal in this game.

Instead of fishing rods, you send your trusty little robot out into any body of water. It bobs and bounces just like any normal lure would so this is simply just Nier: Automata’s version of the activity.

It’s a nice way to take a step back from the pure emotional roller coaster this game sends you on especially since things can go from 0 to 100 very fast in the story.

Earth may be nearly destroyed and humans entirely endangered but at least there’s still fishing.

Minecraft

Like Terraria, Minecraft is full of activities that range from heart pumping to relatively relaxing. You can choose to do whatever you want and if that means spending hours building a house or fishing then so be it. The world is your oyster.

During the day time, the world of Minecraft is rather peaceful and with the soothing soundtrack that plays every now and again, fishing becomes a serene breath of fresh air.

In this game, the fishing minigame isn’t too complicated to learn or do since all you need to do is throw your hook into the water and wait. While journeying across the world, you can easily take a fishing break anywhere there’s deep water.

And since this is Minecraft we’re talking about, you can even build yourself a pier or a harbor if you’re the more creative type.

The Sims 4

The Sims games are a wacky reflection of real life. You can essentially do the exact same things you do in your regular life in The Sims but with varying results.

In the Sims 4, you have the option to take part in some fishing minigames at the beach or at the park where there’s ponds and other bodies of water. While initially a rather solitary activity, there’s a chance that a lot of other sims will just randomly show up to fish too as time goes on.

Suddenly personal space is a thing of the past and you’re squished between two people you barely know as you reel in a fish. Though, The Sims 4 is a rather social game so it only makes sense that a lot of people would show up to fish with you.

Think of it as a bonding experience with literally the entire town.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of those game’s that’s aesthetically pleasing in nearly every way. The cowboy life and the Wild West are romanticized in the best way with beautiful rustic scenery, gritty violence, and a whole bunch of traveling.

The fishing minigames in this are just as nice especially since you get to spend the time looking out at beautiful landscapes. With a nice and quiet atmosphere, fishing is a very serene and peaceful activity.

You could spend hours out by a lake with no one to bother you or interrupt your relaxation.

Add in the game’s gorgeous graphics and you’ll never want to leave any fishing spot.

Far Cry 5

In the context of the story, the general overarching feel of Far Cry 5 isn’t particularly peaceful. However, that’s made up for in the fact that the game is set in the deep and thick woods of picturesque Montana.

This is a prime fishing environment and, just like Red Dead Redemption 2, you can get lost in the beautiful views of mountains and lakes. Fishing in this game is essentially a great way to spoil yourself.

When you fish in this game, you can easily imagine yourself out vacationing at a gorgeous camping spot.
