10 Games That Should Absolutely Get Remade for PS5

Metal Gear Solid

When most people think timeless PlayStation games, Metal Gear Solid is one of those titles that never fails to make the cut. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but that’s exactly why we need a remake of this game on the PS5.

This game could look ridiculously beautiful with the Fox Engine and Konami clearly is at a crossroads with where this franchise will go next. However, they could easily knock this one out of the park.

There’s no better way to let MGS get its feet back under it than by releasing a fabulous remake of this beloved game. And if things go well, then there are always more MGS titles to be remade.

Parasite Eve

It’s about time that we get the chance to jump back into the boots of Aya Brea and blast through the Neo-Mitochondrial Creatures of Manhattan. That’s right, we need a Parasite Eve remake.

The RE2 remake has already shown that there’s an audience for old horror games in today’s world. This game was one of the most impressive titles on the PS1, and seeing it with a new coat of paint would be fantastic.

The graphics nature in the spontaneous combustion and slime scenes would surely ruffle a few feathers, but that would hardly be a good reason to pass on giving this game a remake.

Demon’s Souls

The original Dark Souls already got an upgrade this generation, so it’s about time the game that started it all is shown some love. Demon’s Souls is the newest game on this list, but it still deserves as PS5 remake just as much as the others.

This game is one of those wonderful PS3 titles that only lives on that console and unless you buy a used PS3 then you can’t play this game. It has all the trademark difficulty you would expect and it’s a bit of a fan-favorite.

It’s often heralded by the Souls series community as one of the best titles in the franchise. They’re an extremely passionate bunch of fans and giving this to them would be a wonderful gesture by developer FromSoftware.

Ape Escape

When it comes to unique PlayStation ideas, there isn’t one that’s quite as bizarre and Ape Escape. This remake for PS5 would be a call back to a simpler time where dual-stick controllers were just becoming popularized.

As one of the first games on the PS1 to require the original DualShock, Ape Escape certainly has an important place in the history of PlayStation. Besides that, it’s also just a fun and wacky platformer.

The fact that many longtime PlayStation fans will remember Ape Escape gives it instant name recognition and the nostalgia factor that often helps turn remakes into retail successes.

Ico

From the makers of Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian comes another action-adventure game about leading another character through a treacherous world of traps and tribulations.

Ico was the first game from developer Team Ico and it set a high bar for their next title — Shadow of the Colossus — which eventually set an even higher bar. Much like SotC, this game would look beautiful with improved graphics on the PS5.

They could also take the time to improve the controls of Ico. Team Ico always makes stunning games, but they still haven’t quite mastered the art of intuitive controls.

Bully

Rockstar’s games are consistently some of the most popular and commercially successful titles in the industry. Bully took the GTA formula and plopped it onto a private school campus.

Of course, since you’re playing as a kid and most of the other characters are also children that means the drugs, murder, and general disregard for the police are missing. The game has a T rating from the ESRB after all.

However, this leads to an arguably more creative set of missions that make Bully an incredibly memorable game. A remake of it in the GTA V engine on PS5 would be a dream come true for Bully fans.

Suikoden 2

Suikoden 2 is one of those games you always hear in passing mentioned as one of the best games to ever hit a PlayStation but then never received more titles to continue the story.

It’s commonly referred to as being one of the best RPGs on the original PlayStation and that’s no easy feat considering the quality of the games in that genre on the PS1.

The current popularity of JRPGs in the West is a massive reason why this game should get remade. When it released they were in a niche genre, but now a Suikoden 2 remake for PS5 blow up and get more mainstream attention than the original.

Silent Hill

Again, remakes of classic horror games are big right now. Since so many have devolved into a series of jump scares, atmospheric horror is what makes the big bucks in the genre in 2019.

No other franchise quite captures the feeling of dread that you get when you pick up the original Silent Hill. Whether it’s the dark corridors or the dingy textures, it all combines to make you feel uncomfortable.

We’re clearly not getting Silent Hills any time soon in this universe, so a full remake of this wonderfully horrific game would be a welcome addition to the PS5 library.

The Legend of Dragoon

The Legend of Dragoon was an incredibly impressive-looking video game for its time. It’s clearly not quite a PS2 game, but it’s hard to believe that the PS1 was capable of such a high level of graphical output.

It’s also one of the few RPGs on PlayStation that’s also a first-party title. I have no idea if they want to get back into making RPGs, but they did such a fantastic job on The Legend of Dragoon that it would be a shame to never see it remade.

There have been some rumblings of a remake, but only time will tell. Even if this game doesn’t get a fully upgraded version for PS5, there’s at least still the option to buy the original PS1 title on the PS Store.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Jake Gyllenhaal is a great actor, but he’s no prince and he certainly isn’t Persian. I’m not sure how we got a lackluster movie adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time before we got a full remake.

Luckily, the PS5 comes out next year and that means Ubisoft can give this classic game the upgrade that it deserves. The climbing and parkour along with the time mechanic made this game feel unique.

While it may be similar to Assassin’s Creed, the larger-than-life bosses in this game clearly set it apart. The contained levels would refreshing change of pace from the overwhelming open worlds that are now common.
