JOYS OF EFFICIENCY MOD

Recommended Videos

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

This expansive mod adds a bunch of new functions that make gameplay in Stardew Valley much more efficient. The most notable change is the ability to see which townsperson would love or hate a gift you could potentially give them if you hover over their avatar while holding the specific item. Another larger change is the ability to check how many stones are left, the monster kill tally counter, and whether a ladder has spawned while mining just by hovering your mouse over the icons. Other efficiency changes include:

  • Automatically water plants by walking near them with filled up watering can (still uses stamina).
  • Pets animals just by walking near them.
  • Automate doors on barns so animals can open them if sunny to come outside or close if rainy to stay in.
  • Allow the game to play the fishing mini-game itself if you are just looking to get quick resources.
  • Puts the information about the fish you could catch (species, size, quality) on display while you are attempting to catch it.
  • Automatically opens and closes gates when you walk near them.
  • Forces the character to eat something automatically whenever their stamina is low enough with the ratio customizable.
  • Automatically harvest crops, spring onions, and crab pots when you walk close to them.
  • Automatically destroy dead crops if you walk close to them.
  • Automatically collect collectibles (animal products, forages, etc.) when you walk close to them.
  • Automatically shake fruit trees when you walk close to them.
  • Automatically dig an artifact spot when the character walks over it.

This mod was originally created on May 13, and has been most recently updated at the time of writing on May 30. Try it out and make sure to report back if you happen to encounter any bugs on this huge and helpful mod.

JAPANESE HOME MOD

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

If you want your homes to have a Japanese flair in Stardew Valley, this mod offers new skins for them that mimic the building designs of the Asian country so you can use them in-game. Offering three different Japanese style house skins, you can choose between sliding door entry or normal dual wood doors, and the option to make your house looks a little more beaten down if that’s the aesthetic you’re looking for. The modder promises more Japanese styled decor on the way, including more buildings, furniture, and more.

CAMPFIRE COOKING

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

This mod allows you to cook recipes with a campfire, so if you want to feel more like a woodsy person who is out surviving in nature, this would be a fun one to add. Not only that but for those who are frustrated that you’re not able to cook anything before you upgrade the house, this mod will allow you to get started on that long list of recipes before you have the dough to get a proper kitchen.

ALOLAN VULPIX

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

A new mod out last month replaces the cat sprite with not only Vulpix, but the new Alolan Vulpix who is all white with puffy, cloud-like hair and tail. All of the animations have been replaced so Vulpix will look almost exactly like it would in classic Pokemon games, but on your own farm in Stardew Valley. If you are more of a fan of normal Vulpix, then have no fear as another mod exists that replaces the cat with the classic orange Vulpix sprite.

GIFT HELPER

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

This mod focuses solely on helping you figure out the best gifts to give any certain NPC on their birthday. If you hover over the date of a person’s birthday on the calendar in front of Pierre’s shop or in your house, then a menu box will automatically pop up telling you all of that person’s favorite gifts. If you like the idea of this mod but don’t want to spoil figuring out the villagers favorite items yourself, a ‘progression mode’ is also offered where a favorite gift will only show up after you have successfully given that gift to a villager at least once. While this mod is not brand new, it was updated last month to add an option for the character social page to also show each villager’s favorite items if you hover over their sprite and you don’t want to walk to a calendar to see it the original way.

FASTER PATHS

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

This mod gives the user a slight speed boost if they walk on paths they put down themselves. This means you will be able to navigate your farm a lot faster, and can design a farm layout that optimizes this design so you can run around and get your chores done at maximum speed. You can also adjust the mod so the speed burst works regardless of what footing you’re on, all you have to do is edit the mod configuration after you uploaded it to your game.

BUS STOP BACK RAMP

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

Although the backwoods and bus stop are close together if you’re looking on the map, there is no quick way to move between them besides going all the way around through alternate routes. This mod adds a simple ramp behind the bus stop as pictured above so you can move around in that area of the map more quickly. Although once you get the minecarts unlocked and this might become something you use less, it is still very useful in the start of the game if you happen to go to the bus stop when you meant to head to the mines through the backwoods to the north of your farm.

PORTRAIT OVERHAUL

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

If you feel like some of the original sprites look a bit unpolished, a new mod has updated all of them with more detail and a cleaner look so all the characters will feel like new again. Some just have a bit of tweaking in the face or hair color, while others give the NPCs whole new hairstyles and outfits. You can check out every single new sprites on the Nexus Mods page for the new mod, and download it for your own game there too.

UNLIMITED PLAYERS IN MULTIPLAYER

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

It should be noted that this mod is currently in a testing phase, but you can still try it out to allow an unlimited number of players able to join you in multiplayer in Stardew Valley. Essentially, it takes away the hardcoded cabin and play limit for multiplayer, and only the host requires the mod to be installed for it to work for multiple people. In vanilla Stardew Valley, only up to four players can be on a host farm at any given time. Since multiplayer is a new functionality and will likely be tweaked as it progresses live, this mod might be altered so be sure to check it out sooner than later in case adjustments cause it to be obsolete.

BETTER GARDEN POTS

Best Stardew Valley Mods of May 2018

This new mod makes gardening pots so much better by adding a ton of new functionality to them. Once installed, bee houses will notice whatever is growing in the pot and pollinate it to produce honey of that flower type, water sprinklers now water whatever is in a pot if it’s inside the radius, if the pot breaks you can still harvest the mature crop inside, ancient seeds can now grow in them, as finally crops/plants can be grown in a pot regardless of season both outside and inside. It should be noted that some of this functionality might not work if the farm is loaded in multiplayer mode, but if you want to get the most of your gardening pots in single-player then this mod is a no-brainer.
