Stage 1 of the Overwatch League has been an absolute blast to watch, even if the finals were rather exhausting. London Spitfire started the day off battling against the New York Excelsior, coming back a few hours later to beat the Houston Outlaws, and then getting a rematch against New York immediately after that. It was an exciting series of matches to watch, but clearly, the League has decided that perhaps playoff matches would go better if they were held on another day instead.
Here are the scheduling changes that will take effect once Stage 2 begins:
- Stage Finals move to Sundays at 1 p.m. PST
- Weekday matches now all start at 4 p.m. PST
- Saturday matches now start at 1 p.m. PST
‘Henceforth the Stage Finals will move to Sunday, separating it from Saturday’s regular-season schedule. This is to help prevent fatigue on the part of players (and fans), and to properly highlight the Stage Finals playoff and championship games. If you’ve already purchased a ticket to the Stage 2 Finals on Saturday, March 24, never fear: if you choose, you will receive a free ticket to Sunday, as well.
We also are standardizing the weekday schedule—matches on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will all kick off at 4 p.m. PST. Additionally, Saturday matches and Stage Finals Sundays will start at 1 p.m. PST.’
With the meta shift coming up in Stage 2, as well as the player trades that are happening right now, Overwatch League matches are sure to start heating up again once it comes back next week.
