The news comes from an exclusive story over at Deadline and according to the entertainment news site, “Ubisoft Film and Television and Olive Bridge Entertainment will develop and produce the project. Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin will produce for Ubisoft Film and Television alongside Jodi Hildebrand and Will Gluck for Olive Bridge Entertainment.”

The film already has a written script but a director has not been nabbed just yet, although, there are rumors that Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits, Peter Rabbit) might end up being the director.

This isn’t the first video game adaptation that Screen Gems will be bringing to the big screen, as the studio is releasing a film based on Monster Hunter later this year with Milla Jovovich starring, and they also co-produced all of the Resident Evil films, which also starred Jovovich.

This marks the perfect time to bring the dance series to the big screen, as Ubisoft’s franchise is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. Does that mean that this film has a chance of being good? Not exactly, but we can only hope that Screen Gems can put out a decent movie adaptation. I mean, it’s music and dancing; all you have to do is make a movie like Step Up and you can’t mess this up, right?
