Today, Netflix and Nickelodeon announced a multi-year deal to produce animated movies and shows based on existing Nickelodeon properties for kids and families.
Netflix’s vice president of original animation said in the announcement, “Nickelodeon has generated scores of characters that kids love, and we look forward to telling wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds they inhabit.”
This isn’t the start of their partnership, either. Netflix and Nickelodeon have already produced films based on Nickelodeon properties, like Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
Netflix has been home to many animated films and shows already, with many more on the way. Just in the next few months, Netflix has four animated films left to release, and two more animated films in a partnership with Nickelodeon.
Both The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been announced in collaboration with Nickelodeon, and were announced before the deal was struck.
So, what properties could Nickelodeon offer to expand at their new home? With the return of Rocko and Invader Zim, there are a lot of characters and properties on the table.
With so many great properties, from Doug to Rugrats to Danny Phantom, the possibility of what could come next is enough to keep us on the edge of our seats.
