Harris is a well-known rapper turned actor, and has had roles in large movies before, such as Ant-Man, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and Entourage. Ron Perlman has an extensive acting history, including roles in Pacific Rim, Hellboy, and Blade II. Harris will be playing a sniper named Link, while Perlman is cast as leader Admiral.

In addition to the news about Harris and Perlman, Film Combat Syndicate has now reported that action star Tony Jaa will also be in the live-action adaptation. Jaa is known for starring in action films that feature impressive stunts and martial arts. His filmography includes Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, Furious 7, and XXX: Return of Xander Cage. As of now, Jaa’s Monster Hunter role is known only as The Hunter, although his acting history would indicate that movie goers can expect some exciting monster combat.

Monster Hunter is a franchise of action RPG video games where players control a hunter that either traps or kills monsters, which vary greatly in size. Most of the quests are given via NPCs and the games usually tell a story, though the series is mainly focused on the gameplay mechanics. The progression is tied to gear and weapons that are made using monster parts, which gives players incentive to continue hunting in a loot-focused gameplay loop. The most recent games in the franchise, Monster Hunter: World (PS4, Xbox One, and PC) and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Nintendo Switch) are both now available. The Monster Hunter movie begins shooting next month in South Africa, with no current set release date.
