GKids Films has released an English teaser trailer Tuesday for Lupin III: The First, the CGI-animated adaptation of the beloved anime series that released in Japan last year.
The trailer is gorgeously animated by Marza Animation Planet, the studio behind the Sonic Unleashed short film Night of the Werehog and the character redesign for the recent Sonic the Hedgehog film.
The English dub of the film will reunite the original English cast to reprise their voice roles of the anime world’s most beloved characters, including Tony Oliver as the titular gentleman thief, Richard Epcar as Daisuke Jigen, Lex Lang as Goemon, Michelle Ruff as Fujiko, and Doug Erholtz as Zenigata, the Interpol detective who is the Tom to Lupin’s Jerry.
You can take a look at the teaser trailer below.
Lupin III: The First, which is dedicated to creator Monkey Punch (God rest his creative soul), Lupin and his motley crew of heroes go on the hunt for the Bresson Diary, the legendary golden artifact that eluded his famous grandfather, Arsene Lupin, in his attempt to steal it.
Not only are they trying to steal the mechanical Diary for the glory while trying to evade Zenigata in the process, but they also have to keep it and all of its precious secrets from falling into the hands of an evil figure who wants to use it resurrect the Third Reich.
There is no word on when exactly the movie will release in U.S. theaters, considering that some movie theaters are still closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Whether the movie breaks into theaters or into video-on-demand services, it’s expected to be “coming soon.”
