The CG Resident Evil films may not be cinematic masterpieces, but they are fun opportunities to spend more time with the series’ beloved characters and expand upon the world itself. A new CG series (a departure from the usual films) for Netflix was recently announced at TGS titled Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.
Thanks to a brief teaser, it has been confirmed that the series will reunite Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield (the star duo of Resident Evil 2) once more.
Since it is planned to be a series as opposed to a single movie, there could be even more room for old characters to pop up. But which ones could appear?
Billy Coen From Resident Evil 0
In the last CG entry, Resident Evil: Vendetta, Rebecca Chambers finally made her return after being missing since the events of the original Resident Evil. That’s precisely why her partner from Resident Evil 0 would be a great candidate to show back up, especially since that is the only appearance he has had in the entire series.
The last time Billy was on screen, Rebecca bid him farewell into the Arklay Mountains (which one has to think isn’t the safest place to go solo since you know, zombie dogs).
As far as the world is concerned, Billy is dead thanks to Rebecca’s mission report regarding the incident. Despite that though, it would still be neat to see his return in the series. The CG films are 1-for-2 as far as bringing back Resident Evil 0’s protagonists, so there’s a glimmer of hope.
Sheva Alomar From Resident Evil 5
Much like Billy, Sheva is another Resident Evil partner who hasn’t received much attention outside her single appearance in Resident Evil 5.
Even though it would have been cool to see her return once more in another adventure with Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 6, we instead got a random and less-cool partner in Piers Nivans.
Sheva’s long absence and series neglect definitely make her a strong candidate to make a return in the new series. One way to reintroduce her could be through helping out the sister of her former partner Chris.
There are only two people in Resident Evil that can say they jumped into a volcano to stop a horribly mutated Albert Wesker and Sheva is one of them. That cool act alone should net her a ticket back into the franchise.
Moira Burton From Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Out of all the characters on the list, Moira Burton seems like the most likely candidate to make another appearance. Both she and Claire seemed to grow closer through the events of Resident Evil: Revelations 2, making her someone Claire could call on for help in Infinite Darkness.
The CG films and Revelations games seem to like to tie-in together through stuff like the group TerraSave, so it doesn’t seem entirely impossible that it could happen again.
There is that mild cliffhanger from Revelations 2 that seems to hint that the nice little girl Natalia may not be so nice. If that is a subject of the show, then not only would that mean Moira would likely pop up, but her father Barry Burton too (which also means more terrific dad jokes).
Ada Wong From Resident Evil 2
If Leon Kennedy appears in something, then you can bet that there’s a solid chance that Ada Wong isn’t too far behind. While she was in the remake of Resident Evil 2, she hasn’t been seen timeline-wise since Resident Evil 6.
With her spy persona and super cool grappling hook, Ada is a perfect match for the more cinematic side of Resident Evil. Pretty much all of the best scenes in Resident Evil: Damnation featured Ada, so seeing what new moments they could come up for her would be great to see.
She also serves as a solid foil to Leon and since she already popped up in one film, there’s a good chance she could do so again.
The Dog From Resident Evil 4 (Bonus)
Alright, stick with me on this one. Why not reunite the real iconic duo of Resident Evil for Infinite Darkness? Sure they’d have to explain where the dog has been since Resident Evil 4, but I’ll take anything to have Leon with a sidekick pup.
I like to think Leon swung back by on his jet ski to pick him up and has kept him as a pet since Resident Evil 4, only to now bring him out of retirement for a new threat.
Any reason will suffice in order to see Leon and his dog fight off zombies in this series, okay Capcom?
