We’re terribly sorry for breaking your fragile heart like this, but according to The L.A. Times, Pendleton Ward’s beloved animated series Adventure Time is sadly coming to an end.
Hush, now. It’s okay to cry.
When Adventure Time debuted on Cartoon Network a staggering 6 years ago, it quickly managed to gain itself a following. Not only did the intended youngsters love it, but more mature audiences had a soft spot for it, too.
With its quirky animation, unique style and subtle writing, Adventure Time had viewers glued to the screen from the very first episode. As with most things, however, this goofy ride must come to an end all the same.
The eighth season of Adventure Time is currently airing on Cartoon Network, yet this treasured series will halt production following its ninth season, which is set to air in 2018.
“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too,” creator Pendleton Ward stated. “I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”
On the optimistic side of things: there are still two more years of Adventure Time on the horizon, with the series still spawning a variety of video games as well as a feature length movie that’s currently in production.
We’ll sure miss Finn and Jake’s oddly lovable adventures, but for the time being, we’ll cherish every moment we get to spend in the Land of Ooo.
