5 MCU Characters That Still Need Standalone Films (Spoilers)

avengers: endgame, mcu, marvel characters, standalone films

Even though Avengers: Endgame provided closure to a whole bunch of MCU characters, there are still some characters that we would love to see get a standalone film of their own.

This is a warning that there will be many spoilers in this article speaking on the plot and ending of Avengers: Endgame so we advise that you proceed with caution.

Black Widow

black widow, avengers, standalone film

The standalone Black Widow film has yet to be officially confirmed to be in production by Marvel, but it’s more like likely a question of when and not if.

During the events of Avengers: Endgame Black Widow, unfortunately, faces an untimely death due to the “rules” surrounding the Soul Stone. In order for the team to take possession of it, Black Widow had to be sacrificed. This wasn’t a choice, as both Hawkeye and Black Widow both wanted to sacrifice themselves, but their short-lived fight ended with Natasha falling into a pit, ending her life.

To be honest, her death was not as emotionally charged as say, Tony Starks, thanks to it happening so quickly, but still, it was depressing to see a big part of the Avengers team gone forever.

We’ve seen some of her past thanks to some flashbacks and other story beats throughout the Avengers film, but the MCU has never really dived deep into Natasha’s past. We would love to see more of who she was and where she came from in a standalone film starring Natasha.

Considering that she is now dead, it would have to be a prequel of some sort but taking a look at who she was could ultimately make her death in Endgame have a lot more meaning and depth behind it.

The Hulk

the incredible hulk, avengers: endgame, standalone films

In Avengers: Endgame we get to see (probably) the best version of the Incredible Hulk –a version of the green giant that perfectly mixes up the brain of Bruce Banner with the brawn of the Hulk. Thanks to Bruce Banner finally accepting his fate and being happy with his true self, we get to see Hulk speaking full-on sentences and wearing actual clothes.

Bruce continues to stay in his Hulk form but sports his professor-looking glasses, and looks super hipster. No longer is Bruce fighting with his other angry half, and it’s amazing to see him so happy and natural in this form.

I know that we’ve had other standalone Hulk movies in the past that were technically part of the MCU, but we need a film with Mark Ruffalo, the Hulk actor that we now know and love.

Unfortunately, due to Universal still having rights of first refusal on any Hulk movies at the moment, a new standalone film probably won’t be happening but hopefully, we can get another movie starring Bruce that possibly shows us what the Hulk went through after the Thanos snap or even his time away from the Avengers.

Hawkeye

hawkeye, avengers, standalone film

Hawkeye has always been a strange member of the Avengers team, especially being one of the original six teammates. He mysteriously disappears to start a family of his own and eventually ends up working as an assassin of some kind after the Thanos snap wiped out his entire family.

He had nothing to live for after losing everything near and dear to his heart, but once Black Widow tracks him down and scoops him up from Japan, he becomes hopeful that this whole time travel thing will bring his wife and kids back from being dust.

I want to see more of him in a standalone film that takes place during those five years. What was he up to? How did he end up working as a mercenary all the way over in Japan? These are the questions that could be answered if Marvel were to place him in a starring role in a future Hawkeye standalone film.

Falcon

falcon, avengers endgame, captain america

We see an aged Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame pass off the torch to Falcon by giving him the famous shield that Cap is known for using as his main weapon. This moment points towards Hawkeye being the new “Captain America,” or it could just mean that he has a new weapon in his arsenal.

If Falcon ends up having a role in the MCU as significant as Cap, then Falcon will definitely need a film of his own to help flesh out his character.

Given that Falcon and Bucky will be getting a Disney+ television series starring the duo, it only makes sense that Falcon will be the new Cap in phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; it happened in the comics and will no doubt happen on the big screen as well.

Scarlet Witch

scarlet witch, vision, scarlet witch, wanda

Scarlet Witch doesn’t take the spotlight too often in the Avengers films, besides Age of Ultron, but Wanda always seems to pop up out of nowhere to show off her all-powerful witch attacks. In Endgame, she approaches Thanos and yells “You took everything from me,” and then proceeds to lift huge rocks from the ground beneath her to then throw it right at Thanos’ big purple face.

Her relationship with Vision will apparently be the main focus of her Disney+ television series, but how cool would it be to see Wanda on the big screen, allowing her fans to see where she came from. I for one would love to learn more about her birthplace over in Sokovia.

Wanda and her twin brother, Pietro (Quicksilver) undergo experiments in order to help save their ruined country from turmoil, resulting in both of them receiving gifted abilities. Unfortunately, her twin brother faces death in Age of Ultron, leaving him out of the picture.

Let’s get a film starring Wanda and really go deep into who she really is and get more insight into her troubled childhood back in her home country. A standalone film starring her and Pietro would be a fantastic addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Those are our five picks for Marvel characters that need their own standalone film. Which characters from the MCU would you guys like to see be more fleshed out? Let us know in the comments section below –we would love to hear your thoughts.
