In Splatoon 3, you’re a kid now, you’re a squid now, you’re an octopus now, well, at least you would be if you could switch between them more easily. It can be difficult to find, but there is a method for how to change between Inkling and Octolings in Splatoon 3 if you are looking to change your character.
If you regret your decision in choosing an Octoling over an Inkling in Splatoon 3 or vice versa, you are able to change between the two, but it is a bit of a hidden feature. Here is your step-by-step guide for how to change between an Inkling and Octoling:
How to Change Between Inkling & Octoling in Splatoon 3
- Enter the Map Menu
Press X on your controller to enter the Map menu.
- Navigate to Options
Use the L or R buttons to get to the Options tab in the menu.
- Scroll to Other
Once in the Options tab, you need to go down to Other and click A.
- Select Player Settings
From there, go down to Player Settings and click A. Select Yes to change your character and Smallfry.
- Select A Style
From here, you will be able to select an Inkling or Octoling and change your species.
It is strange that Splatoon 3 forces you to go through a bigger process to change between an Inkling or Octoling, but this menu does allow for some additional customization options. Using this method, you will also be able to change your eye color and your small fry’s hairstyle. These are settings that cannot be changed using the gear-changing menus.
Once you choose an Inkling or Octoling, their hairstyles are all available to you and are not gender-locked. That means if you are playing as an Inkling, you can choose all of the Inkling hairstyles at any time during your playthrough but will not have access to the Octoling hairstyles unless you change to an Octoling. The same goes for Octolings being locked out of Inkling hairstyles.
