Using Combat Arts and Magic in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes

Every character in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will have access to two combat art and magic slots. Once you’ve equipped an art on them, you’ll then be able to use them in battle.

  1. In the battle preparation phase, make sure your combat arts are equipped.

Select a unit, press X to access the convoy, and equip their combat arts from there.

  2. When in combat, hold the R button and press the Y or X button to activate your weapon skill or combat art.

Arts and magic spells are assigned to those face buttons, so pressing Y or X will activate whichever one you have bound to that button.

  3. Recharge weapon durability to keep using combat arts.

Your combat arts and magic will consume weapon durability points, so once your durability wears out, you’ll no longer be able to use them. You can recharge durability by picking up the purple item drops on the battlefield.

How to Unlock Combat Arts and Magic

Combat arts in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes are mainly tied to each character’s level of job mastery. There are three star levels to achieve for each job, and you’ll unlock either a combat art or passive ability with each level gained.

Job experience is gained simply by having your characters fight and level up naturally, or you can speed it up by talking to the Training Instructor back at camp. Select the Train option when speaking with the Training Instructor, then select the characters and the respective jobs you want to level up, and begin training.

You’ll consume training points for each training session, and those are refreshed in between chapters and certain battles.

Warrior and Awakening Gauges

Aside from your two regular combat arts, every character also has access to a special Warrior and Awakening attack. As you take out more enemies and seize strongholds, your Warrior gauge (indicated in the bottom left corner of the screen) will start to increase.

Once it’s full, press the A button to unleash a powerful Warrior attack that will hit everything in your vicinity.

Similarly, every character has an Awakening gauge, which is indicated by a small circle in the bottom right corner of the screen that slowly fills up over time. To activate your Awakening state, hold the R button and press A. While in an Awakened state, you’ll deal more damage and you’ll also be able to break your enemies’ guards more easily.

Once the gauge is depleted, your character will automatically perform an Awakened attack, which is another powerful AoE move that will hit everyone around you.

These two gauges can also be filled up more quickly by picking up the yellow and blue item drops on the battle field; the yellow ones will fill your Warrior gauge, while the blue drops fill the Awakening gauge.
