If you’re looking to catch ’em all, you’re going to need to get your hands on the Super Rod in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The Old Rod and Good Rod will allow you to fish and catch different Water-type Pokemon from bodies of water around the Sinnoh region, but if you want to catch the most powerful and rarest creatures lurking underwater, you’ll need the Super Rod, and here’s how to get it.
Getting the Super Rod in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
To get the Super Rod, you’ll need to first beat the Elite Four and earn the National Pokedex. After beating the Elite Four, you’ll be given an invitation to go to an island, located just to the northeast of the main landmass of Sinnoh itself. You’ll need to take a ferry from Snowpoint City to get there.
When you arrive here, make your way towards the gate building for Route 225. Inside, you’ll find a fisherman who will rant and rave about how brilliant the Super Rod is. After he’s finished blabbering away, he’ll give you the Super Rod in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, allowing you to catch even rarer Water-type Pokemon from any body of water in the game.
Using the Super Rod
To use the Super Rod, walk to the side of a body of water and select to use it from your bag and press A. You’ll now cast your line out and need to wait for the float to sink under the water and a ‘!’ to appear above your character’s head. When this happens, press A to begin the battle with the Pokemon.
With the Super Rod now acquired, you can catch some very rare Pokemon by fishing in different bodies of water. This includes the incredibly rare Feebas, which can only be caught by fishing on a single, random tile of water in Mt. Coronet each day.
The likes of Gyrados, Dratini and Dragonair can also now be caught, the former in the various lakes around Sinnoh and the latter two within Mt. Coronet itself on the fourth floor.
