New World: How to Get Fibers

If you want to go fishing in New World, then you’re going to need a Fishing Rod. But, like most things in the game, you’re going to need to craft one. A fishing rod is made from Fibers, so that obviously poses the question of how you get this crafting ingredient in New World.

Getting Fibers in New World

Fibers are obtained by harvesting Hemp plants around the world. These are tall, plants with pink/ purple flowers on the top, and lots of long finger-like green leaves around the bottom of them. Much like how hemp plants look in real life.

Hemp appears to have a pretty rare spawn rate in New World from our experience so far, but we found some of it growing near to the Delicious Truffles we had to harvest for Hapless Howe in the ‘Truffle Fever’ quest at the very beginning of the game.

For us, this was near Fullmoon Den, shown on the map below.

Harvesting one Hemp plant will get you 25 Fibers, and will require you to use your Harvesting Sickle tool.

To make a Fishing Pole, you’ll need 1 Green Wood and 1 Fiber. This can be made from the Workshop at the first settlement you reach in New World.

Keep in mind that, like most other tools, the wooden fishing pole only has limited durability so will break after a while. As such, you’ll want to keep some New World Fibers spare, just in case you ever need to craft a new one.
