Very early on in New World, you’ll eventually make your way to the first settlement of the game. After going through a few more preliminary quests that teach you how to craft and set up camp, you’ll be asked to join a faction. There are three factions in the game, and you’ll be able to earn experience points and influence for them the more you play, eventually allowing you to claim territory.

Before you can do that, though, you’ll first need to complete an initiation mission. The mission tasks you with heading to Bradbury Farm to loot some crates, kill some Corrupted, and kill Karl the Overseer. The first two objectives are easy to complete, but the third might take a little time.

Finding Karl the Overseer in New World

Karl the Overseer will always spawn on the second floor of one of the buildings in the farm. Specifically, look for the building with the supply chest next to the fireplace on the second floor, and wait there for Karl to spawn. It might take a while, especially if there are tons of players in that area who might be trying to kill him as well. He should spawn every couple of minutes or so, so just wait around until he shows up, then whack him with a weapon.

Once you do that, the objective will be marked as complete and assuming you’ve already completed your first two objectives, you can head back to town to turn the quest in and officially join your faction.
