4 Questions We Need Answered in Part 2 of Attack on Titan’s Final Season

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan‘s final season has just ended… well, at least for the time being anyway. Fans of the series were thrilled to hear that the show will be extending its final season with a part 2 that is set to air next Winter, 2022.

This seems like the most logical choice for the series as the first half of the season ended on a huge cliffhanger. If you’re caught up on the manga then odds are you understand how much content is left to be covered, and while the show’s studio, MAPPA, could have elected to cram it all into a movie, a lot of content would have had to be cut in order to do so.

Now that we know part 2 is coming and while we have a whole year to wait around for it, we decided to list a few of the biggest questions we have that need to be answered by the time the series fully comes to an end next Winter.

Here are four questions we need answered in part 2 of Attack on Titan’s final season.

Spoilers incoming.

What Is Eren’s True Objective?

The show has been full of twists and turns since the first attack on the Shiganshina District in season 1. Since then we’ve seen Eren grow as a character and change in a lot of different ways but until this season, we’ve never seen an Eren like this.

Eren has changed, he is older, harsher, and more distant from his friends and ex-comrades from the scout regiment –but most importantly, he is more determined now than ever.

Eren has clearly been plotting things for a long time. He spent months hiding in Marley, learning about its people, and secretly communicating with his allies back in Paradis in preparation for the raid on Liberio which he planned alongside his brother, Zeke. All of which was only phase one of his plans.

Jump forward a bit to where the last episode ended off and we have talks about Zeke’s euthanasia plan to remove Eldians’ ability to breed so no one else will be born with the ability to turn into a titan.

However, we don’t know whether or not Eren believes in this plan himself. Considering how confident and determined Eren appears to be at this point in the series, it is very possible that he has his own plan hidden up his sleeve.

At the start of this season, Willy Tybur predicted that Eren would start the Rumbling and use the titans in the walls to destroy the world. Whether or not this is actually Eren’s plan, we’ll have to wait and see.

What Happened to Zeke and Levi?

Levi and Zeke have had quite the rivalry since the Beast Titan was introduced. Levi seriously put the hurt on Zeke as the Beast Titan during the Return to Shiganshina Arc and was merely inches away from killing him before losing the opportunity to.

This moment particularly stung for Levi as his closest friend and ally Erwin died to give him the opportunity to take the Beast Titan down. Levi later regrets this as the one and only command he didn’t complete for Erwin and it just so happened to be the last one he ever gave him.

Levi was able to put his hatred to the side to work alongside Zeke during the Raid on Liberio, but now that truce has ended with a bang –literally.

The last time we saw Levi he was blown up by a Thunderspear at close range, and the last time we saw Zeke he was badly injured by that explosion.

Knowing just how important these two characters are to the series, they’re probably not dead… at least not yet. However, we need to know what exactly happened to them –especially Zeke, I mean he was put inside the stomach of a titan for crying out loud!

Who Will Live and Who Will Die?

Attack on Titan is no stranger to killing off characters. From Marco’s death in the first season to Erwin and Bertolt’s deaths in season 3, and most recently, Sasha’s death earlier in this season, Attack on Titan has killed off a lot of characters regardless of how important their role was or which side they aligned with.

Now that the real battle between Paradis and Marley is starting, there are bound to be some causalities on both sides.

On one side of the fight, we have Eren, the Yeagerists like Floch, the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers like Yelena, and more than likely, Zeke if he survived and can make it to the fight.

On the other side, we have the Marleyans like Reiner, Pieck, Gabi, and Porco backed by Marley’s military.

And somewhere in between, we have the remaining scouts currently being held captive by Yelena, and that includes Armin, Mikasa, Jean, and Connie, as well as Hange’s group searching for Levi.

It’s not so much a question as to if characters will die, but more so which characters will die. If the Rumbling does end up happening, then the question will become what characters will actually survive and make it to the series finale.

Will Annie Return?

Annie has been crystalized ever since she was captured at the end of the first season. While that’s a long time for such a major character to be out of commission, it seems like she might be making a return soon.

Throughout the first half of the final season, we got a little bit of insight as to what has been going on with Annie over the years — and it’s not much. mean of course not, she’s crystalized, what do you expect her to be doing?

What we did get through these scenes is a further development of her relationship with Armin.

Armin and Annie’s relationship has been teased since season 1 as the two often shared playful, somewhat flirty, somewhat mean, banter.

The first time we really see signs of Annie’s affection for Armin was when she attacked the survey corps while in her Female Titan form. She intentionally showed Armin mercy and left him alive despite showing no hesitation to kill the rest of his comrades.

Later that season when Armin and the others plotted to capture her, Annie was hurt not just by Armin betraying her trust but simply by the way he was looking at her, stating that she wanted him to think of her as a good person.

It was also no secret that Bertolt had a crush on her as well, and since Armin would have absorbed his memories after eating him, it stands to reason that his affection for her has only increased while she’s been in her chrysalis form.

This season showed Armin visit Annie on occasion, further developing the relationship between the two. This was the first time we’ve seen Annie in quite some time, and Attack on Titan doesn’t really put scenes in for no reason so there is a very high chance that Annie will return.

What she does after returning, well, we’ll have to wait and see.
